However since they do not have the liscence to broadcast in the states they are pretty strickt about enoforcing this. They have ways technical and logistical to know where the unit is being used and will immediately disconect the account once they find out.
Take ExpressVU or Star Choice with you... of course, you'll need someone to pay for it for you...

Hogwash... I and thousands of others have been using ExpressVu in the US for years... I personally have had it for over 4 years now and it has never been turned off... I keep paying the bills, they keep sending the programming..

Hi Everyone!

Good luck on your immigration journeys. Darn it, I miss my Canadian TV too (especially shows like Royal Canadian Air Farce, CBC and CTV News, and Mr. Dressup (yeah, I'm a kid at heart)). It's funny that where I am living now, I don't get Canadian television. However, if I drive a few miles over to my mother in law's house that is closer to Buffalo, I get to watch CBC and CTV. Lol....good excuse for me to visit family (just kidding, as I would still visit them anyways).

One thing I won't miss though is TV channels from Buffalo, as I used to get them when I lived in Toronto, and I still get them where I live now. So yeah, my husband and I used to talk about common Buffalo TV shows and commercials back in our old dating days...lol....Funny, we were so close, yet so far from each other living distance and country-wise back then...lol...Oh well, we're together now happily married in the USA and that's all that matters....

So yeah, if you get the chance to visit someone or to move to Buffalo and the surrounding US areas, you can watch all the Canadian TV that you want! (Or then again, one can just ask a friend from Canada to tape Canadian TV shows and send them over. Or better yet, just stay in Canada (though I don't think Canadian TV is worth it to stay in Canada).)

Ant

P.S. By the way did you know that in Canada there is a law requring all Canadian TV stations to have a certain amount of hours dedicated to Canadian TV programs only? Lol...no wonder Canadians have such interesting TV shows, made for necessity purposes only....

I was hoping someone on here had the lead on getting Canadian TV channels here in the US. I'm thinking that a satellite provider would be the best bet but I haven't seen anything on their programming.

I want Amy to feel like she has a little bit of home here in Portland. Hockey Night in Canada would really help that! :-)

When I was growing up in Montana our cable came with the Lethbridge, AB station. That was pretty cool.

Yep the body that regulates the law is called the CRTC i believe.. it also regulates Radio programming as well... There are stipulations for religious broadcasting as well (all faiths must be giving the opportunity for airtime). Vision TV is a classic example of the CRTC at work :)

Call Star Choice and buy a receiver, dish + self installation kit. When you get to the USA, set it up. Keep your Canadian cell phone # so you can call them to activate your programming packages (they will think you are calling from Canada through an ID caller) and chose the paperless option so you do not receive an invoice monthly. Then use your USA Visa/MC to pay the bill online.

they do play a lot of Canadian TV shows on Discovery Home.... the one show I can think of at the moment is "Holmes on Homes"

I have also seen the "Designer guys" but I can't remember what channel... and the decorating show with that tall blonde chick and the annoying theme music :P

I call them from the US all the time when I have trouble. You can't use the toll free number through. They actually have a ghost number in Montreal for people in the US. They don't advertise it though, you have to be sneaky to find out what it is..
