There probably has been some discussion on this but I have noticed a number of posts where the timeline lists both I-129f and I-130? What is the purpose doing so?

In my case, we filed for a K3 because we have hope that it will be quicker for us. Our I 130 is at a total standstill right now. If the K3 comes through, we will take it I'll go back to the US to be with my husband again.

The I-130 is the CR1/IR1, and most who file the I-130 for their spouse also file the I-129 (K3) for their spouse. The K3 was created because the CR1 used to take a long time to process, keeping couples separated even longer. The K3 if approved and issued allows the beneficiary to come to this country while their I-130 is still being processed. The K3 is not required, but you cannot file a K3 without filing the I-130.

This is why you see many who file both petitions.
