i think we will have to agree to disagree that just because someone is poor, that their right to raise a family should be taken away. there are many ways to live a life, but ultimately it is up to the kid what they choose to make of the life they are given. adversity can build incredible strength of character.

My family is poor but my parents are not that retarded to have 4,5,6,7 kids.

My mother actually got abortion for the 4th kid because we simply could not afford it.

Both my parents worked very hard to support a family of 7 (including grandparents) in HDB flat of 3 rooms (only have 2 bedrooms actually), and put the 3 of us through college.

And we did not have any govt welfare.

Speaking of parents, why does my mother think it is appropriate to email me and ask me which forms I filed with my taxes without any explanations or anything? Just did you file XX form and XX form? They aren't anything at all to do with her in the slightest. I could understand if it had to do with some of our joint accounts or something....

She does this with other things to, like "how much is your refund" or "how much do you have in the bank right now?"

If I thought she should know, I would tell her or might as well give her passwords to all my accounts.

for religious reasons, or family pressure, or any number of other reasons, not everyone would be able to make that decision. good for your mom she made a decision that was right for her family. doesn't mean that other people who make a different decision are necessarily wrong.

i don't want to have kids myself. but i respect the choice of others to raise a big family if they want to, income disparity aside. while i too worry about having to pay high taxes, obviously governments all over the world must see a social and economic benefit in continuing to pour money into supporting lower income families, including all their many children. its not as if these kids are living the high life (like steve ).
