Yes, it does. If you press, and you can ID the driver, our he admits to leaving the scene, then he gets arrested.

If you can only ID the car, then you report it to your insurance company, and furnish them with a copy of the police accident report. They will pay you first, then collect from his insurance company. That's if you have full coverage insurance.

i see. i'm guessing the guy didn't have insurance, probably why he drove off.

we are unlikely to press charges. the damage is so minimal, we're probably not gonna call our insurance company either. just a couple scratches, a very very tiny bit of chipped glass and some indentation from the impact.

well, if you don't press, and he admits to the police that he was driving, then they can elect to issue him a summons.

People leave scenes for a lot of reasons.

They could be uninsured, or

Unlicensed, or suspended/ revoked

DWI/ DUI

Have a warrant for their arrest

Just being an azz

he could be using his friend's car

it could even be a stolen car. But the police would know that already.

he could also be running from a crime that he just committed......

They might have drugs/ contraband in the car

see? all kindsa reasons.

this is the second time in under a year we've been rear-ended. the first time was on the highway. some guy hit the car behind us and that car lurched forward right into us. the middle car was a lincoln town car. the truck that hit it was all bent out of shape in the front. jonas' bumper was all messed up from being hit by the town car. the town car? no damage at all lol. i think i know what car i'd get if i was super rich to raise my chances of making it out alive in the event of a bad accident.

Town car is definitely sturdy. Some smaller cars are built to "crumple" with crumple zones. In an accident, they behave like an accordion. absorbing a lot of impact from you.

Smaller cars have tire sizes carefully calculated by guys with like PhDs. So that when they get T-boned, the car will break traction and slide before the side comes in far enough to impact you.....

that's why these guys that like to put these extra wide tires on their little cars. Bad idea. If the engineers that built the car thought it should have wider tires, they would have put it on there as factory equipment.

Be careful. Just because the damage looks minimal doesn't mean it is. I was rear ended once (the second time in that car) and while it looked like a few scratches, I went and got a quote which was just under $1000 for damages. Just to replace the rear bumper. I wanted her to pay because I was stopped. It would have been like hitting a parked car and my kid was in the car with me. Because the lady didn't want to pay up, started ignoring my calls, and even changed the message on her phone, (turned out she she didn't have a license and the RCMP had warrant out for her arrest already) I went to my insurance company. It was her boyfriend's car too. So it ended up costing over $3k in damage (to replace the bumper) because there was damage to the foam under the bumper. Had I gotten into another crash it could have harmed me, my child, or at the very least, put the car out of action.

The initial quote didn't include that kind of damage because they couldn't see it.

hmm...spate of bad luck continues. jonas and i were rear-ended in a hit and run about 40 minutes ago. we are completely unharmed and the car has minimal damage (thank god). policeman was amused that i had the guy's license plate, description of car, exact time of the hit and run and a picture of the guy snapped with my phone lol. still not sure that we want to press charges though. policeman said he is going to drive by the guy's residence and see if anyone is home.

what can i say...i am a cynical singaporean to the bone. jonas kept saying "yes, i am sure the guy is going to pull over."

nope...off he drove.

"Sue the bastards," as the saying goes, wow ma'am.

when they get T-boned

What have I done now, huh man?

Well, it was 78 today and we are getting snow on Monday. :protest:

So what does Nola do now that she only sleeps 3 hours a day? She's up sewing her first cloth fitted diaper. Yep. My levels of boredom and nesting are ridiculous and mind numbing.
