I'm on cingular and think it costs 20c per text when I text the UK. I've tried so hard to get them to allow me to be able to CALL them as well, but everytime I think they've got it right they enable my phone to call Canada and Mexico - not really international is it...

Thanks everyone.

I have Sprint right now, been with them for over 8years. I am pretty much satisfied with them, but I was thinking to switch just to get the internatioanl txting and also be able to use the phone (emergency only) when I travel. But now that you said you can use it.... hmmm I will check it out, how it is....

Did you have to call them to add it to your plan or you just txt and get charged what you use? And  I am so dumb, how to send international SMSs...is it like sending them here in the US? or placing a international phone call? Sorry I have never done it...and I just checked the Sprint www and it doesnt say much about it.... Thank you!

I used to belong to Sprint and I never had any luck with it, but maybe they've added that feature. With Verizon I just go under text menu and enter her phone number including what international calling code you need. :star:

For hers, it's 011 + country code + phone number

Cingular is 20 cents per txt message, and a LOT of the time, they don't make it through to France. It seems France goes on and off their plan on a whim. LOVE that.

I do NOT recommend Cingular!

I've got Cingular and I wouldn't recommend them. The SMS messages I send to my wife do go through about 75% of the time but they are $.20 a message (even when you add in an SMS messaging plan). Worse than that their service just isn't that good, period. Least dropped calls my #######!

I've used international texting with Verizon, but there have been a few times when they seem to get lost.

I use Verizon and it's been very reliable. They don't offer any specific plan feature, but I think it's about 10 cents per message sent and 5 cents for each one received (internation only). Domestic text messages are sold as a plan (250 for $5 per month).

Verizon's international text rate is expensive: $.25 for each outbound, $.10 for each inbound.

I pay $10 for unlimited domestic IN text messaging (other Verizon users) and have a 50-text allowance for non-Verizon texts.

My text rate was very high when David was not here.... much lower now, as opposed to my 15 year-old daughter who sent/received 2000 text messages last month. At least they were free!

:o My fingers hurt just thinking of that!

Kids these days are incredible at texting, lol. <-----how fkin old did THAT sound? hahahahah

When I moved to England, I had not really heard of texting...the US is so behind in mobile technology. And here are these kids with a standard telephone pad using predictive text or actually spelling out their msg (even in txt spk) like lightning fast!!! I was like '####### is this?'

hah, even now, I have a treo that has a full keyboard on it...only one button per letter! and i'm sure even tho I've improved loads, any kid could put me to shame with their msgs.

I have Cingular. They charge .20 per outgoing & incoming international texts. However, if you have a text package, they don't charge you for the incoming international texts. Service is fairly reliable, though I will confess there have been problems. BUT, I have shopped extensively and cannot find better pricing.

Urp, I thought my 250messages plan included Canada. ###### fine print. Urp. Well, it's only been probably about $6 in texting this month.

Oooooh yeah, I have two teenagers and between both of them, they send more than 6,000 messages a month! And they type so darn fast that it just amazes me :o I got the unlimited text after one month's HUGE bill!!!

They get pretty amused when they see me texting, like, ooooh you poor ol' lady.... :P

Verizon is what I have but unfortunaetly Janak uses Hutch in India and they are not on the list of providers in India. His sons phone is airtel which I can send too. However.. what is better yet.. is to go on my msn and yahoo account.

when i sign off msn messenger and yahoo messenger I have both set to go to my mobile. Jan also sets his phone up for mobile as well. so When i am offline he can send me a message to my msn account and/or my yahoo to give me a message. This is ALWAYs free..

only charge incurred is local text message but I am on unlimited texting.

I have mastered my predictive text hehehe.. so glad to have unlimited texting.. and seriously it doesnt take too long to rack up 2k sms messages... that is only avg of 66 text messages a day .My daughter is 14 yrs old. ... she was given unlimited on sms/texting... but is limited to her use of her phone time. the phone is in constant use.. easily uses the 2k on texting.
