as I mentioned earlier, there is no such thing as looking worse or better -- I have had friends with family members illegally in the US and they still received visas.

It looks worse, because by virtue of being a US citizen the OP would now be a position to petition her mother, whereas right now as an LPR they cannot.

No one is saying that B-2s don't get issued to family members of US citizens, because clearly they do. However, given that the OP's mother was already denied when she was an LPR, her becoming a US citizen does not help in the slightest.

Obviously, more evidence of ties to Brazil could reverse this.

I will relate to you our story to show you how stupid the whole tourist visa situation is:

My wife, who at that time was just a freind and we were conversing via e-mail, wanted to visit the US to see the sites and I told her that I would take her around and be her tour guide. SO she gets all the documents together to go to the US Consulate for a tourist visa. It has been quite some time since she has travelled to another country besides Turkey. I give her teh $165 visa fee and she goes to her interview and is promptly denied. We wonder what to do. I send her another $165 to try again. So two weeks after the first interview she returns with the same evidence and is approved. What was the difference? The IO the first time was a very young woman that my wife said seemed new to the job and the second time was with the older gentleman that had dealt with where my wife worked. It also migh be that the experienced IO knew that my wife had a pretty good paying job by Kazakhstani standards even if it was extreme poverty by US standards.

Maybe some Embassies/Consulates want to see if an intending tourist will be willing to shell out the visa fee a couple of times.

Good luck,

Dave

That's really awesome Dave! Thanks for sharing that with me, it makes my heart happy. Hopefully, when we try again in a couple of weeks it would work out! :-) Thanks!

It is also a strong reason why her mother would want to visit.

You must be new with tourist visas.

actually I am not. Many millions visit the US with tourist visas every year and they have family members in the States. Read through my examples. The consulate can deny you for any reason. Having family there is not a reason alone to deny you -- tourist visas are not just for shopping my friend. My fiance is from Mexico. Nearly every Mexican you meet knows someone in the States either legally or illegally, yet the State Department still issues tourist visas to these people. According to that logic, not one Mexican would be given a visa because invariably they have a relative or two in the States.

Thanks everyone for your responses! I am the only child and she works. I don't know what could lead them to deny her. Maybe because I am the only child. That sucks.

And I am sure brazilians are not the only people that"forgot to go home". I know people from other countries that live here illegally. I've done everything the right way and I have never been illegally in this country. We should not judge by race. Thanks.

My friend also is the only child. Her mom got denied three times and the reasons were given by the CO sometimes not make a sense from your point of view. First denial she was asked why her husband did not apply. She answered, he was sick and could not fly for long flight.

The second denial the CO asked again why her husband did not apply, she answered that her husband was still recovering. The third time, her husband finally was there and applied as well. The result? Denied! Her mom was a retiree from a government agency and has had respectable job.

So, welcome to the club!.

god that is tough. I am already starting to worry about my fiancee's sister's tourist visa application what will inevitably happen sometime next year. If she were to be denied, by fiance would be crushed. Me too.

It is no harm to try. Her mom applied within 3 months in the row. So, though it seems wasting money at least you will know what the outcome is.

I got denied a tourist visa back in 2010 and the reason why because I said "wanted to visit my boyfriend". With many people got married while using a tourist visa and adjust of status afterwards lower a chance for others to get B-2 visa, in my opinion, yet government still allowed it because in the eyes of law, it is perfectly legal to do so.

I would say, it is worth to try. I have a new friend on Facebook who just engaged to an American. She's from Indonesia as well and her tourist visa was approved. She was never been to another country before and the U.S. visa was the only visa on her passport. I would say, some of part of this process somehow involved what we called "luck".

Your mom should consider wanting to go shopping in Miami, and perhaps visit DisneyWorld in addition to visiting you.

My understanding, through my Brazilian fiance who has many friends and acquaintances with tourist visas, is that the easiest way to get that visa is to want to go shopping in Miami and/or go to DisneyWorld. That's just what the great majority of Brazilian tourists want to do. "Going shopping" also strongly implies that you intend to return to Brazil, because then you're just going to America to take advantage of the extremely low non-Brazilian prices, for goods that you intend to use in Brazil.

I agree with the above post. Going to Miami/Orlando to shop will seem more typical of what a Brazilian would do.. although I know you want her to see your home and everything so it defeats the purpose. Does she have any strong ties to Brazil? I would give it some time before she tries to ask for it again. I live in Orlando and I feel like they just give visas away to Brazilians. Unfortunately my fiancé was denied a tourist visa before :/

Really needs to show she has extremely strong ties to the home country, Brazil. owned property, bank account.,.,and anything else she can prove as she will return to her native country.

This is not easy, but if she has these mentioned things, she should try again.

Just my thoughts.
