DOING TAXES: K1 Married but NO SS. ITIN

 Share

hopefully I am posting in the right section.

I was married to my K1 fiancée in the last quarter of 2014. We got married within the 90 days she came over. However, I have not applied for change of status because of expenses. I procrastinated and did not get a ITIN number for taxes.

SO WHAT SHOULD I DO???

I AM THINKING OF:

"MARRIED, but filing separately."

or

"Married, but filing separetly, and no dependents."

or

"Married, filing separately, but her dependent but will file a SS."

Any suggestions???

It is too late to get ITIN.

married, filing jointly, including the w-7 application form for ITIN,

all printed to paper, no electronic filing,

all sent (1040, w-2, etc + w-7) into the special ITIN intake address in Austin Texas.

[the above are the instructions, really ! ]

it's never too late to get an ITIN - what have you read, where have you read it, that makes you consider that it's too late to get an ITIN?

so, you seeking a signature on a form, plus the passport?

if you do the math as MFJ, and you two owe no monies to IRS,

you not have to file on/by 15 April

*that internet stuff is nasty - you gots a regular calendar for regular life?

The ITIN has strict identifIcation requirements. Look it up at IRS.gov Her passport is suitable ID.

Married filing separately is fine for immigration.
