How busy is Toronto-Pearson preclearance?

Alright, Craig landed in Toronto at 2:15, and said he'd call me as soon as he was through customs. I know, I'm freaking out for no reason, but 1 1/2 hours? Everything I've heard is that the Toronto-Pearson POE is super fast and handles the K1 really well.

Alright, I just need to calm down.

It's okay.. He'll be just fine.> Toronto is the busiest airport in the country. A flight incoming from a country that is more closely screened could be ahead of him, or he could just be having trouble figuring out those blasted charge your visa airport phones, he could be helping a mother of 10 get her kids to thier next gate, he could be moving between terminals (that can take a while, a HUNDRED things could be happening.. I can only imagine your wanting to hear something, but it will be okay..

UPDATE: He just called. Said going through customs was the worst experience of his life.....more to come once he gets here. But he's through and on his way to his connection.

Why doesn't that surprise me?

It seems Customs & Immigration have a habit of making things unnecessarily difficult and stressful for people from other countries -- and this isn't limited to the U.S. either. Canadian C&I can be pretty bad as well. But anyway...I'm glad he got through okay and that he's now on his way to meet up with you.

Ah yes, the bad customs experience coming into the US of A - not like we haven't went through enough hoops for these people . . . I guess they just wanted him to jump one more time! Happy reunion!

ive never had a bad experience with customs coming to the us but ive never been to toronto either. it is very difficult to find someone with a positive experience over at pearson intl

Sorry to hear he had a bad experience.

I'm back from visiting my husband and had a great experience with CBP at YYZ. They asked me a lot of reasonable questions given the situation (since I'm visiting a USC spouse) but I didn't get pulled into secondary. I offered to show him my paperwork, but he declined and the guy even wished me good luck whenever I get my interview and to have a great weekend.

Hopefully I'll either have an interview date before the next scheduled visit. If not, I hope my next experience there is that pleasant (it's always been so far and I go every 3 weeks). :crosses fingers:

I've had some bad experiences there; my WORST was in 2000/11 when making a combined trip to Calgary and Windsor (actually Vassar, MI--but I drove there from Windsor airport) from DC for the Thanksgiving week. Canadian C&I are known for picking on visible minorities, and those in Pearson are also known for an anti-western bias--being both visible minority AND going to western Canada...
