I'm for decriminalizing pot. It's not more dangerous than alcohol. As far as smoking goes we can deal with it like cigarettes in terms of public places. And it's really damn stupid to treat a drug problem with prison.

Hey, two birds with one stone. Legalize pot, tax it, and use it to fund univeral health care. ;)

Alcohol does so much more damage. The drug war is a sick joke.

At the taxpayer's expense...AMEN!

Why is it that drug dealers never have all of their assets seized and sold off? Or any serious criminal for that matter.. The US government would collect billions in return for their efforts..

Edited by Infidel

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I'm sure all those cartel folks down in South America and the far east would agree with you.

Front men don't have "billions".

Come on now.. So many drug dealers here alone are earning thousands of dollars a week and only receive petty little fines or jail time. What sort of a prevention / punishment is that??

Anyone who commits a federal crime should have all of their assets and property seized.

The US should also go after these drug cartels. We can take on Bin Laden but are scared of some drug dealers.. This is where it gets one thinking of the real reason why drug cartels down south have not been busted..

The argument might be more convincing if you provided specific examples...

The US should also go after these drug cartels. We can take on Bin Laden but are scared of some drug dealers.. This is where it gets one thinking of the real reason why drug cartels down south have not been busted..

"Going after drug cartels" as you seem to mean it would require going to war with almost the entire South American continent, several countries in the far east, oh... and the middle-east.

Guess which country is STILL the world's biggest opium/heroin producer? Here's a hint - we're already at war with them...

Great idea. We should also make all television sets 'two-way' so the government can keep an eye on us. You shouldn't mind if you have nothing to hide.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senator Barack Obama
Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

Wait...which are you for? Decriminalizing or legalizing marijuana? Decriminalization and legalization are two very different things.

"Weed is a seed that grows in the ground...if God didn't want it...it wouldn't be around."

(Read on the bathroom wall at Valhalla Pub on Rice University campus.)

But seriously...small amounts of reefer should be decriminalized for users only, but not legalized. Casual users should be permitted to grow and possess small amounts for personal use in their private homes after purchasing a growers license. People with weed in their cars should be arrested as a public safety issue or if they are intoxicated in public.

Dealers, large scale commercial growers, and trafficers should continued to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. These activities should remain illegal.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995
