All they need is to verifiy you in the system ans you will receive a card. I applied for a SSN on my K1. Then later I updated my details when my EAD came through. It took around 3 weeks in total. The card reads "valid for work only with DHS authorization"

Because USCIS messed up the date of birth they say we need to refile both EAD/AP and provide a letter of explanation and evidence it was their fault and return the card to them.

They say it would take normal processing time (90 days). They may be able to expedite but it's at their discretion of course. So basically I don't know what to do. We are booked to leave the country in 4 weeks and I don't want to risk anything. I've made an info pass appointment so hopefully they can help me.

If you already have the SS number that is all they care. You don't need to show them the SSN card. At least I didn't, and my card is still under my maiden name and with the DHs observation. I already applied for an updated one but of course they had to verify with DHS and it can take up to 6 weeks (I had to wait just as long to receive my SSN the first time).

As long as you have the number, I think it should be ok. My hubby is in the same boat --- just waiting for the number now ;o
