Obtaining SS card for K1 visa holder

Hi everyone. I was reading the SSN step-by-step guide here on VisaJourney. And I noticed this paragraph:

On the visa application Form DS-230 (expires 7/31/2007), you saw the following offer:

"Do you want the Social Security Administration to assign you an SSN (and issue a card) or issue you a new card (if you have an SSN)? You must answer "Yes" to this question and to the "Consent To Disclosure" in order to receive an SSN and/or card."

Please note that this program is ONLY for Immigrant Visa holders (CR-1, etc). If you checked this box, a Social Security number will NOT be generated for you if you are a K-visa holder.

My fiancee did check off YES to this question on form DS-230. So does this mean she WON'T get a Social security number? Has anyone else checked off the box and didn't receive their social security card? Please inform, thanks.

It only applies for immigrant visas... the K1 is a non-immigrant visa. She will have to apply for a SSN when she arrives in the US.

Your fiancee will have to go to the SS Office after about 2 weeks of his/her arrival in the US and apply for a Number him/herself. Just make sure to go asap because it will get hard to ge a number if the I94 is going to expire soon.

I understand that, she is going to apply for her SSN next week. But my question is whether she is going to be denied the SSN because of the fact she checked off that question on the form DS-230. That was the impression I got.

No, I doubt that. There simply was no request for a SS Number sent to the office, she'll be fine.
