Not going to the interview is ok! I didn't go to my fiancé's and he got approved :) Going is always a plus, but not a requirement.

if the embassy is located in a high-fraud country the difference between attending and not attending could be approval or denial or more delays. better to be safe than sorry.

I'd say it definitely does depend on the country, but if the interviewer requires the US sponsor to attend, there will most often be a second interview conducted where they can be present. I've only ever heard about this happening in the Dominican Republic though. I'd email the embassy in your country to be sure.

Even in high-fraud countries, the denial rates are in the single digit percentage.

I'm likely not going to be able to go to my fiance's interview because I've burned all my vacation visiting. I'll also send along a letter explaining it, and my fiance knows it.

In the end, if your relationship is for real....you shouldn't have any problems in the end. You have a bunch of red flags? Sure, I suspect it might play into a decision.

I agree.. I've read a couple reviews of the consulate in Rio and many have stated that the interviewer asked them a like 3-5 questions. My fiancé got asked like 10-15 questions and he answered them all correctly. Of course it depends on the country you are in and the interviewer you get but if you followed all the rules and had an honest relationship the denial rates are pretty slim.

Great! Thank you! :)

I kind of got worried...Hopefully the embassy will not ask for my presence...I will probably call to check but I know a person who wasn't present at his fiancee's interview and she got approved. Thanks anyway!

Thank you pfrederiksen! No red flags I believe lol We've been dating for 6 years and I've been going back and forth twice a year except for this year. He did try to come and visit me for my commencement ceremony but he didn't get an approval. So I am kind of worried if they'll make a big deal out of it. Hopefully not.

We got denied a tourist visa too. It's nearly impossible to get one once you are in the K-1 process.

Has nothing to do with your relationship.

I have finally gotten the NOA2 and made it through the NVC and DOS website shows my package being received at the Bogota Embassy on Monday June 1st. But when I emailed the embassy on Friday the 5th they replied to me that they have not received "all of the info" from the NVC. What the hell does this mean and how can I find out what id going on? If anyone can shed some light on this it would be great.

Thanks everyone.

We got an email from the embassy with all the info just a few days after our case was received. Send them another email or call them, it shouldnt take that long.

I agree. But we weren't in the K1 process yet, he just wanted to visit me instead of me travelling all the way there again. But anyway I do agree that it's nearly impossible to get a tourist visa in his country lol

Thanks a lot! Call on Monday again, don't wait until the middle of the weeks. There have been so many cases where the case number was assigned and the officer didn't give it to them! Best of luck!

I called tonight. Got thru after about 9 redials, was on hold 54 minutes. Spoke with another nice lady who gave me all my information :) The CEAC does not return information yet, but I will try again in a few days. I think I saw some people who said theirs did not update til it was at the embassy?

Question- do the numbers in the case number indicate the date the case was entered?

My fiancé also tried to come on a tourist visa and got denied. He didn't say he was going to see his girlfriend and just said he was going to visit. In the interview the first thing they talked about was the denied visa. The interviewer said "I see that you tried to go to USA in 2013 and got denied, what happened?" He said that he wasn't qualified to go and then the interviewer asked if he knew me at that time and he said he did. Then he asked why didn't he put that he was going to visit his girlfriend and my fiancé responded "because everyone told me if I put that it is an automatic denial." The interviewer said "ah I see you were scared of the denial" and just continued on with the questions. So just be prepared to talk about it :)

Well, she mentioned we were doing the K-1 (I told her to be completely honest through it all), so I doubt it'll be a problem since she was completely honest.

In your case, it could be considered fraud since the truth was stretched on the reasoning of the visa, so I'm not surprised there was some questioning.

Does anyone know if it's okay for the foreign fiancé to call NVC as well? I know USICS only accepts calls from the petitioner

Edit: i should probably search before I ask.. apparently I can :D

I think I've seen either one can call but I'm not positive. When I called the second time she asked me for the following info. The first time I called after giving receipt number I had no further questions as I was told it wasn't in the system yet.

Beneficiary's name, & DOB
Petitioners Name
Then she asked who she was speaking with.
