We had our interview last week and they told my fiancé via slip of paper at interview and email to come back today (June 2) to get his visa. Because of this, we booked a ticket for this Thursday, June 4. The Embassy called today and said that it now won't be ready until Friday (did not give a reason). Has anyone successfully argued with an Embassy over something like this? Or should we just accept it and pay double out original ticket price between fare changes and fare difference? I know it's just a couple days difference, but we're really disappointed.

Learn from our mistake: avoid booking travel and getting your hopes up until you physically have the visa in hand!

Oh that sucks :( is there any possibility that it can be done tomorrow? It's worth a shot calling or going to the embassy tomorrow if it's close and finding out. It's hard to fight over it, they really stress not making any final plans until the visa is in your hand :/

Thank you. We've contacted the Embassy and had others do it too.. no dice! And the Embassy keeps repeating they don't have to tell us why there is a delay, which is frustrating. I thought we were safe booking a ticket 9 days after the interview but apparently not. We were trying to get him to the US while his parents were still here so they could see us get married. Their flight out is evening of 6/4, so no chance of that now.

I realize my first post was super whiney (sorry!), but I guess I want to save anyone else this heartache and use my mistake as an example... no matter how safe you think you are for booking, it's a huge risk and a huge let down when it doesn't work out!

The uncertainty on this year would be a good title for all our lives. I woul have assumed that 9 days would be enough to get the visa.

We are also making a bet, our niter view is on the 10 and our tickets out of santo Domingo are for the 19th. Big risk, I know. I am resigned to pay the fee for the change of date, but I will wait. Sometimes , bc of weather airlines let you reebok without paying a fee, other times, if they made any change to your original itinerary, you are also allowed to change dates without paying a fee. do not give up. Also be glad that you are not going into the black hole of administrative processing.

Good luck

Haha no it's ok, we all have a right to be whiny with this whole process :P thanks for sharing though! My fiancé actually got approved today and the guy said that he should get his visa in a week or two so I was thinking that maybe we can book his flight to come three weeks from now because I wanted him to meet my mom too before she travels on the 22nd but I think it's better to hold off based on what you wrote.

I hope that he is able to! I want to say three weeks would be safe, but if they said a week or two for the visa, you never know! I know that's not super helpful or reassuring, haha. But three weeks seems like a good bet?

Meeting family is such an important moment, really hope that works out. Congrats on him getting approved though... huge step and a big weight off your shoulders!

Thanks :) I hope the 9 days works out for you. It seems like it's enough time for a lot of the cases and Embassy reviews that I've read. I've never been good with uncertainty or not having a plan and this process is slowly killing me.

The interview is a huge relief that you have to look forward to... good luck!!!

So we finally got the email from the embassy and schedule the interview. Upcoming are the medical exam and police certificates. Does anyone know if there is a validity on the police certificate and how long? I would assume it varies based on the embassy but how could I find out? Thank you!

It took about one week to get the new case number and almost a month until they forwarded it to the embassy.

Hello everybody

I saw that many of you may already have completed the DS-160.. My question is : Do we really need the invoice number and beneficiary number ? And if so, what are they for ?

I have seen that we need those number only for complete an another form DS-260 and not DS-160.. If somebody can explain to me I will be grateful thank you !

Cheers :)

From what I've read it varies from country to country on how long they are valid. Someone mentioned it in our country's review page, so I'd check there or message someone who is still active on VJ from your country. Or try and email the Embassy directly and ask? They've been helpful for us, but not so helpful for others. Good luck!

Agreed 100%! Just be upfront and kind of pushy you are looking for your case number. We called a few times too until we got someone who found it for us.
