You don't actually need the case number for the DS160. I'm assuming the DS160 is the same form for all consulates, but ours very specifically said that it was the receipt number (SRC) and not the embassy one we got from NVC. We did need the case number to book the medical though and that's what sets the clock for the timeline from NOA2 to Interview in London. You can have a peek at the DS 160 online and start it and then save it to retrieve later. Just make a note of the reference number and set up a retrieval question and you can go back to it and amend it. That's what I did :)

Yeah, I just want the case number so I can fill out the ds-160. I'll be in vietnam next week for 1.5 weeks, so it'd be super convenient if we could get that done while I am there.

You can use your src # to fill the ds-160, I completed mine with that number.

I would almost just say, before they say anything other than "please give me your receipt number", that you are just calling for your case number and invoice number. That's how i finally got it.

They always want to tell you "please give us up to 35 days to process, we just received it on __________" if you give them much time to talk. :)

Today I found out my case was sent to the Embassy in my county DR, but still no word on the website still says my search did not bring up any results. So I'm like ??? When do I even start getting things done? How will I know it go there? ?

Hi guys! Actually when I talked to an agent at NVC, he told me that they will notify me by email when our case will be sent to the embassy. He checked the email and phone number on file to make sure it is correct and he repeated a couple of times that they will notify me by email. Also, I have a friend who did the fiance visa recently and NVC did indeed send an email with all the necessary information. Does the DS 160 form has to be completed by the petitioner or the benefeciary? I heard that the beneficiary should do it.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I think it's intended for beneficiary to fill out, BUT if there is a language barrier or something, petitioner can do it. I think there was some information that I wouldn't know-like entry dates from his US visits before we met- so I would have been useless. I didn't see the form at all, so I'm not sure if there is a section where you have to declare if petitioner or beneficiary filled it out. You can save the forms and come back to it though, so if you fill it out and need answers from beneficiary, that's okay.

If I remember correctly from filling it out for a tourist visa there is actually a box where you can put the name of the person that helped the beneficiary fill it out.

Try emailing the embassy directly! some of them are pretty responsive. Explain that you can't find it online and want to confirm it was received and when you can expect your packet. We were super worried and email and got a response in about 24 hours.

I know for vietnam, they'll actually just email you the packet if you want. It's also available on the embassy site. A lot of times, addresses either don't exist or mail is iffy.

I think the packet just provides the info you need anyways. It's not that significant besides knowing what you need for the interview.

Hmm, good point. I guess it varies country to country. Our packet would be the only communication of interview date and time had we not asked about it and the online directions vary a bit from the physical packet instructions. Still probably worth a shot to email and ask if embassy has received it. Guess this is the stage where beneficiary's country really comes into play.

I called the Embassy in Dr and it was a big waste! they basically directed me to the NVC. the person i spoke to even told me i probably wrote down the wrong case #, i explained the NVC told me to cal them since my case was sent out and that they can longer track it. So in the end they sent be back to the website and told me that if it keeps saying that it can't find my case to call the NVC. Arghhh
