For what it's worth.. My Civil Surgeon (one in CT), didn't even ask about Chicken Pox.. :) He didn't record that one at all.. Dr. Doan in H'fax said I had been exposed but Civil Surgeon didn't seem concerned about it..

Autumnchick - did he ask about that with you guys?

Well, we had showed the CT doctor the vaccination worksheet from the Canadian interview. He did write down that my hubby had chicken pox in 1971. He also listed the DT vaccine. He only seemed to care about the DT, MMR and polio. He did ask about a TB test, but we explained that my hubby just had a complete physical in December and all we needed was the vaccination supplement. He looked at the form he had for doing a complete physical and said that the vaccinations needed were DT, MMR and polio. Nothing about chicken pox in the required vaccines.

Well now.. this is not a vent about paperwork, but about Cheque Cashing

we recieved a Mr & Mrs cheque (in my new name) drawn from CDN funds.. SO I can't cash it in my CDN account, and my hubby called his bank today and THEY said they won't cash it either.. So.. useless little piece of paper that is..

GAH! That's frustrating.. we're so flipping close geographically.. WHY can't we just get along and cash each other's cheques.

So now I have to return the cheque to my friends and say.. thank you very much for your gift, but we can't cash it :) NICE..

Mr and Mrs need to sign the check then you sign under it.

Just like you would do if you were cashing a check .........um cheque....against your own account :)

Not connecting..

Have Mr & Mrs Emancipation sign the cheque..

Then sign the cheque in my maiden name?

That will clear in my CDN account (which is in my maiden name)?

Huh?

I am being a little slow tonight, but why won't they cash it? Is it a problem with the name on the check and on the bank account or is it that the CT bank will not cash a Canadian check?

My husband's mother sent us a check as a gift. My bank in NH was able to deposit it to my account. They charged a $5 fee. My MIL had also written on the check that the money should be in US funds. Also, since where I live in NH is so close to the Canadian border, the bank may have been accustomed to cashing/depositing Canadian checks.

Their official word was "we do not cash cheques drawn on Canadian Funds". Period. Not for a fee not for any price, not with green eggs and ham, not with chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. Nada.

And the problem with CDN account is that it's in my maiden name. Not my new Married name. They won't know who's cheque I'm trying to cash :)

Can you call around and find another bank in the area that might cash it for a fee? It sucks and is a pain, but at least it would give you something to focus on besides waiting for your green card :lol::lol:

You know this whole check cashing thing has really become a problem lately I think. I haven't had quite that experience, but I did try and file for my Canadian Passport about a month ago. They need a Check or Money Order in Canadian Funds. So I go and try and get a international money order to send. Nope, bank doesn't do that anymore like they used to. They had no idea where you could get it done. You can only get a money order in US funds.

So I'm not sending my credit card info in the mail, especially internationally, that left me with one solution. Call my parents tell them the stupid situation I'm in and they ended up having to send me a Canadian money order made to the gov't that I could send from here.

So yes, anytime anyone sends you money or checks from Canada, just tell them to send a Money Order in US funds. Seems it's not that hard to do from there at all, my parents send us christmas/b-day money orders in US funds without a problem. We just can't seem to send them any in Canadian funds though...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

So I sent my cheques to Canada - Here's hoping that my CDN account (in my married name) will accept the cheques in my now married name. I will find out this week. I'll keep you posted.

On another note, I went to DMV today for my DL. HOLY FLIP that place is sheer insanity!!! There were lines of people everywhere, speaking in all kinds of languages, kids running here and there, and chaos insuing. I was completely overwhelmed and my hubby was great getting me the Change of Licence form I needed. I got to the wicket, and had all my documentation in order. They made me do an eye exam. The officer explained that they needed to contact USCIS in order to confirm my paperwork, and that on SATURDAY's the response time is not very good. Very dumb move Eman.. going to DMV on Saturday.. What were you thinking? Wait a sec, you didn't know. So 40$ later, and nothing really to show for it. I waited probably 45 min until they called me back and said "USCIS is not responding, you'll have to come back next week". So they gave me back my documentation and I left after 2 hrs without a new DL.

Another interesting note, they said they had to issue my licence in my maiden name and then re-issue the licence again in my married name. Sounded like a cash grab to me.

So I guess it's another trip to that sea of chaos next week YEAH!! I'm SOOOOO happy!! ;)

I checked this out with my local bank at home (Royal Bank) and the teller told me they didn't have a problem with cashing a money order in US funds -- I asked them specifically which method would be the best, since I had planned on sending some funds to my mom to deposit in my account. Canadian banks seem to not have as many problems dealing with US currency as US banks seem to have with Canadian.

I got my CT DL today!! YEAHAW. They gave me a 5 year DL so I don't have to go through that headache again. There seems to be an 'issue' with getting your CDN DL (in your maiden name) changed to the US One in Your Married Name. They require in CT for a certified copy to stay with the request for the DL change, and I had to do 2 licences (they only printed one). Only charged me for the one licence. (110$ total)

I wish that we were living in CT right now :) New Hampshire apparently will not let my husband get a license until he has his green card in hand. And we live in a SMALL town, public transportation is unheard of. Today was -4 F (windchill - 30) so he wasn't about to leave the house to walk anywhere. He about broke my heart though tonight when he asked me to leave him a $5 to he could maybe walk to the Dunkin Donuts tomorrow to buy a coffee and see another human besides me :(
