All the namechecks happen at the NVC and the Consulate. USCIS, as far as I know, already performed their checks when they approved your petition. When you get the CR-1 visa, you're already approved for a greencard. :)

Be patient with me if Im being thick here ........

.......but if the USCIS did all the namecheck biz on their end before approving the petition, what's the FBI namecheck holdup people are experiencing following their AOS interview?

We see people having their AOS interview, being approved and then waiting forever before they actually recieve the GC because of FBI name check backlogs.......so the 10 million dollar question I have..........can that same holdup occur after the CR-1 interview at the consulate. Can one have a successful interview, get approved for the CR-1 at the consulate but still not get the GC right away because of the notorious backlog?

Someone correct me here if I'm wrong:

They run the checks again on AOS because, and I'm guessing here, it's a new application. I don't think they care if you've already had checks run on you already at the service centre, USCIS and consulate and for whatever reason, they may get a hit when someone files for AOS.

With the CR-1, you wouldn't actually be issued the visa until the name check clears. This can happen with a K1 or K3 as well. I haven't seen it happen to anyone going through Montreal or Vancouver but it's fairly commonplace with consulates like Morocco.

Here's the overview of checks that are run: http://www.usaimmigrationattorney.com/Secu...tiveReview.html

So maybe we need to revisit the notion of going back to Montreal in the summer.........UGGGGGGGGGHhhh

I think it would still be less of a pain to go back and do CR-1. You wouldn't have to deal with USCIS, just NVC and the consulate. As I mentioned, if my I-130 hadn't been retained, I would be doing that too and going to Montreal for that interview.

Hey! Sorry we missed you at the doctor's. It took us much longer than expected to drive down. The doctor was great though :) My hubby did get his polio and MMR vaccines done (apparently his immunization paperwork in Canada from childhood was destroyed after he turned 19 - according to the Department of Health where he lived - so we had no proof he has received a polio vaccine when he was a child). My hubby has had measles and mumps as a child and told the Canadian dr. that. On the Canadian vaccination form, the dr. had also checked that polio vaccine was not age appropriate. Guess that was acceptable for the Vancouver medical, but the doctor in CT recommended getting the vaccines again so we could have proof of an actual date he got them. He also transferred other vaccinations that hubby had received. All in all, it cost $130. Still worth the drive to CT. The doctor was able to see us on a Saturday. We had looked into getting titres run to prove antibodies in his blood, but the cost of the titres was $200-$300. Also, a doctor's appointment up here plus any immunizations would have been way more than $130.

Hey autumnchik, since I haven't moved (yet), think it's a good idea for me to get titres for polio done while it's still covered under health care? I was only really going by what the panelphysician.com site deemed as age appropriate. I don't have a record of a polio vaccination but I'm sure I had it done as a kid. That's the one that left an oval scar on your shoulder right?

No, I'm pretty sure the smallpox vaccination is the one that leaves a scar on your shoulder.

Okay so for my next installment.. :)

I called multiple Civil Surgeon's on the Official List to transcribe my "Vacination Documentation Worksheet" onto the Suppliment form, and NONE of them would just do it for a resonable rate (all wanted $120 and up for it). They kept saying they had to charge for the full medical, even though I was DEMANDING I didn't need a full medical. I was so upset and frustrated, that hubby had to take over the calling. I think he got 3/4 of the way down the list for the CT Dr's, and then the first one we called on the list actually called us back the second time.

When has a CDN Dr. actually ever CALLED me.. ever talked to me from his cell phone?.. Once I got over that initial shock... He asked how our hunt was going, and I explained the RACKET that we were getting from Dr's trying to make us pay for a medical when all we needed was one little piece of paper.

The man sighed and said. That is EXACTLY why I got into this business. Apparently he must have discovered when he went for his pilots licence what crazy rates Dr's were charging for Immigrants/others to get medicals for paperwork purposes, and decided he would try to make a difference. He said "tell me again what you need". When I explained again what we needed (one retarded little form), he said, call me on my cell on Saturday morning, we'll meet and I'll do it for 25$. God BLESS that man!!!

Note to self: When it comes to US healthcare- One MUST keep calling and calling for the good deals and the Dr's who have empathy :)

It took us some calling around to find one who would do just the vaccination supplement. Geesh, the whole thing is a money market for these doctors...it's almost sickening.

Hi I have that copy also from Dr Doane in Halifax. So let me get this right because I too thought that was all that would be needed.

In other words the copy he gave me of my vaccination work sheet isn't worth ####### when I fill my AOS form. I would have to take this worksheet to a Doc in WA along with vaccination records and pay just to get a Doctor there to sign it

Just when I thought all this was getting a bit easier

I wanna say Katherine didnt have any trouble using the vaccination worksheet..........and I also think she said it was a crapshoot.

Maybe do a search of her posts, if you're rushed to get info , otherwise Im sure she'll be along before too long.:)

For what it is worth, I submitted a copy of my vaccination worksheet given to me by Dr. Doane with my AOS application to prove that I had had my medical within the year, and had no problems at all. However, that was 2 years ago, so take that as you wish. :)

Hey Misa,

This doctor was really nice, but when I tried to show him the vaccination list that my hubby got at his Canadian medical, that said that polio was not age appropriate for him to have to get, the US doctor recommended getting the polio vaccine again. Personally, if you can get a copy of your immunization records that show you have had the polio vaccine, you should be fine. We just had lousy luck with getting the records. In addition to his childhood records being destroyed many years ago, he also tried to get records from his most recent doctor (hubby had some immunizations done several years ago before traveling). Well, that doctor, three years ago, had transferred records from one computer system to another and they said, there was a malfunction and records were lost. If you are going the titre route, definitely get it done while you have healthcare!!!!!

I agree with KarenCee about this being a money market for some doctors. It was definitely worth it for us to drive 4 1/2 hours from NH to CT to see this doctor. When you get to the US, definitely call around and find a doc that will transcribe the records for a minimal fee.

autumnchik, thanks for the input. My records were also destroyed after I turned 18 (I checked with public health) and my mom threw away my original vaccination records. Then again, she was also unclear on a whole bunch of things for me (like the hospital I was born in!) and had to get my dad to confirm. :o

For my medical tomorrow, I got titres done showing immunity to some things and then vaccinations for others. I think I'll go back to my doctor this week and get titres done showing immunity even to things that are not age appropriate. I'm almost positive I received the polio vaccination as a kid. But I guess the titre will show that!

Anything else I should get a titre for? Like I mentioned, I went by the list on the panel physician's site so I already got titres for MMR and TD. I don't need to get one for chicken pox do I? I'm just going to give a verbal declaration tomorrow but now I'm worried about AOS later on...

For what it's worth.. My Civil Surgeon (one in CT), didn't even ask about Chicken Pox.. :) He didn't record that one at all.. Dr. Doan in H'fax said I had been exposed but Civil Surgeon didn't seem concerned about it..

Autumnchick - did he ask about that with you guys?
