Hi, We are just now sending our I-129F, but I have been reading through this forum, and haven't come across anyone who is marrying a Russian guy, it's always the other way around...

We are wondering about the interview process, since I have a feeling it might be different for men rather than women (because of the huge difference in number of applicants?)

So, if anyone has been in this situation, we would be interested in knowing what kind of questions they ask, how the people at the consulate were, etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks. Milena.

Boris on the other thread is a Russian dude with an American wife.

There was a lady on here a while ago (Laurak) who was in Russia with her husband. She's now back in the U.S. and brought her husband with her. You can find her in the member section. PM her, she checks every now and then.

Other than those two couples, you're pretty much SOL as far as A/W to R/M go.

That said, I would assume the K-1 process is pretty much the same except for the end (the interview), when your fiance walks in with a distinct advantage over his female counterparts. There's an assumption that guys here marry Russian chicks because they're hot and we've got a little money. The burden is on us (well, actually on her) to prove otherwise. Your fiance is going to get the assumption of "what the hell is this American chick doing marrying this poor, drunk, skinny dude?" (I'm paraphrasing of course, but that's the opposite of "hey look, grandpa just hooked up with a hottie.") Call it what you want, but the stereotypes for mail-order brides are there, the stereotypes for mail-order husbands are not, and that should help you out.

You'll probably still have to provide all the evidence of a "real relationship", but I would assume that you'll breeze right through this process compared to some of the American gentlemen sponsoring Russian ladies on here.

Good luck, keep us posted, and welcome to the Russia forum. Please come back and post... we definitely need some female input here!

Milenka- My husband had an interview in Moscow, he said it was pretty friendly and how he immediately felt from the atmosphere how important it was to not try to look or be a certain way, just answer everything truthfully and it took less than 5 minutes. That was after our case spent like 250 days at the NVC!

Ask away. I think the questions were: Where we met, what is your profession and wife's profession, her address in USA.

Good luck!!

February 3, 2005. Applied for K-1.

July 14, 2005. Email to NVC congressional unit

Nov 2, 2005. Letter to congressman

Nov 8, 2005. Letter from congressman

December 19, 2005. Visa interview in Moscow. (250 days at NVC)

January 27, 2006. POE: JFK.

April 8, 2006. Wedding in USA.

April 19, 2006. Apply for AOS.

July 12, 2006. AOS Interview.

February 26, 2008. Letter to congresswoman.

March 19, 2008. Conditional Permanent residence began!!

2009: Wake up and get on the uscis train again - lifting conditions

Dec 21, 2009. Eligible to apply to remove conditions

February 2010: 10-yr Green Card Received

:) I love being a minority - I'm ugly and married the poorest American around! :)

Seriously, Milenka, you will be okay - as long as the relationship is genuine, there's nothing to worry about! :)

We just sent our I-129F today, we are both already nervous. I am just hoping it makes it from Poland to California in one piece :) But it's a great feeling to know it's done and sent, now comes the big wait.

We applied for K1 in December, 2005. Our case was approved in March, 2006. And it was immediately sent to NVC for further checks. We are the lucky ones... NOT.. Cause security clearance or name checks (whatever it is) has been lasting for almost a year now. But waiting for that long is not a norm. That's why we contact all people possible related to the case. Congressmen, Senators, FBI, etc.

As for the interview, I know for sure from the experience of many fiancees that I know, that ALL they seem to care at the interview about is the US citizen's financial matters. If he's not that well off, you'll have them shower you with questions. Better be prepared. Taxes, job, debts, all that include money issues is a must for them to wonder. They can pretend to be so curious about your real intent, authenticity of your relationship, but it's only something formal they ask. Major thing is finance. If all your papers are in the order required, you have nothing to worry about.

I really doubt that. (The ugly part, that is.) And as far as the poorest American around... I can give him a run for his money!

Congrats Milenka for finally sending it in! GOOD LUCK!!!!

Edited: Jewel12, I just checked your profile to see if you really were ugly. In all actuality, you kind of look like Jada Pinkett-Smith when she's playing that tough chick on the Matrix, and she's HOT!!!
