Thank you Not a Tailor and mrs thb,

Sorry my explanation was not clear. My husband is French and we are flying from Paris to Detroit (3 hour stop over) and then to Toronto. After a couple of days in Toronto, we are finally reentering Detroit as our final destination.

My understanding is that for any international connection flights going through U.S. airport to Canada, you still need to go through the U.S. customs and immigration before taking the connecting flights. Isn't this correct?

Also just to double-check.. He wouldn't need a ESTA nor transit visa, would he?

see....http://www.metroairport.com/TravelerInfo/Connecting/InternationalConnections.aspx

If you are arriving to Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) on an INTERNATIONALflight, you will be required to claim all checked baggage and clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) entry procedures regardless of your final destination.

You have several issues that need to be cleared...first one being can he get through customs and immigration without poe'ing on his stopover? if not, then will he be able to fly out and return if he has poe'ed a few days prior. This sounds complicated.

Secondly, will you have enough time? If you must POE when you arrive you might not have enough time to get bags, clear customs and POE, then re-check bags, clear security and get to gate to catch the flight to YYZ. Detroit is not a huge airport but some carriers require bags to be checked 1 hour prior to flight. Will you make this cut off?

Best you investigate this further, I'd contact customs and immigration the airport directly if was you, just to be certain.

I waited 70 days for cc, though, and I've now been waiting 23 days for interview to be scheduled.

Not a Tailor, sorry it's taking so long for your interview. That's whacked!

I checked the timelines, and it seems that mine was the last interview for VJers from Canada that's been scheduled.

I hope you get your interview date soon!

You send an email to NVCExpedite@state.gov outlining your reasons. Usually, they only grant an expedite in cases of life and death, extreme financial hardship against the US citizen/petitioner, and I think impending military deployment.

In your case if none of the above apply, you could always try, stating that you have been waiting a very long time to be scheduled an interview which is an unreasonable delay, but in honesty I don't think they'll approve as there may be others in the queue ahead of you in exactly the same circumstances.

It's horrible, I know. I'm rapidly running out of money but because I'm not the petitioner, it doesn't really matter.

Yes, your completed petition and supporting evidence get sent on to the NVC and eventually the consulate for your interview.

Yes, as well as the stuff that you submitted to the NVC.

If you submitted originals, take a copy with you to the interview as a just in case.

If you submitted copies (after the process change last year) don't forget to furnish the originals on your interview date!

I've figured out how to find out what your interview date is!

Basically, if you stand in a dark bathroom in front of a mirror and say "immigration reform" three times, the ghost of an NVC worker who died from exhaustion due to too much overtime will appear behind you and hand you your packet 4.

Then again, I may have drank too much scotch.

I'm sorry, but it really bothers me when VJ users spread misinformation. That actually summons a Consular Officer who puts you in AP.

Petitioner: U.S. Citizen living in U.S. Beneficiary: Egyptian Citizen living in Egypt Seychelles United States!

Just a little rant because I'm sure you all get this too--

Conversation at least 5 times a day with co-workers, family, friends:

"So what's the next step"

"Waiting for interview"

"When is the interview??"

"We aren't sure, waiting for it to be scheduled."

"Well how long til you find out?? How long does it normally take?? When do you THINK the interview will be??" etc etc etc etc etc questions I cannot answer.

I know they are just trying to be nice and inquire but I guess I'm just so sick of talking about it lol. It is almost like they think you are just uninformed about the process otherwise you'd have more information to share.
