It takes them few hours after the interview so thats why you see administrative processing. I think it depends on each country but mine took about 9 hours after the interview to change the status to isssued. Don't panic!!!!! I was panicking but thankfully after I woke up, it had changed to issued! Good luck and congratulations :)

Dwheel...anything on what it means when after interview it states administrative processing

If the interviewer said "The case seems to be fine" or anywhere along the same line, it means your visa will be issued but it takes a little bit of time for them to update it online. Thats what happened to my husband. The interviewer told him that the case looked fine after a few questions and told him he'll receive a text to say when and where to get the visa. And the status changed to issued in about 9 hours after the interview.

Someone will maybe know better than me...but if you are in administrative processing, doesn't that mean that his interview was not successful and whoever interviewed him either wants more time to look over things or needs you to submit more information?! I don't know for sure but I've just been learning from reading people's experiences on here. From what I know, if you are in administrative processing you should not expect to receive your visa until you hear back from the consulate and it can take a little or a lot of time! I hope I'm wrong!!! I just didn't want your question to go unanswered again.

This is a situation where they wee approved at interview. After interview your status changes to Administrative Processing. Dependig on the embassy it can last a day to a few days then it changes to Issued.

The AP you refer to is the one when the CO didn't approve and you get usually a 221g form stating what is up (sometimes) more documents to turn in or they need more time to render a decision or investigation.

Good morning,

Still waiting for my husband status on website to change from administrative processing to Issue. Its been a long journey. Just want him home. Does anyone know how long it takes for time to issue the visa after the interview?

For Jamaica it usually 2 to 3 days it should change to Issued any day now. Nothing was asked of you to submit right. It was a straight approval at interview.

Hi everybody!!! How is everyone doing? My husband's interview got approved and he'll be flying in a week or so. However I have a question, since it hasn't been more than 2 years since our marriage, what are the next necessary steps. Anyone with any info on this matter would be greatly appreciated :) I'm praying for a speedy union of your loved ones :) God is good. Keep smiling

Congratulations. so happy for you. :goofy:

Well for now nothing you need to do. You pay the $165 fee on Elis to pay for green card. You still have to keep evidence of a Bonafide relationship and 90 days from his 2 year anniversary of his POE you can file the Removal of Conditions ROC.

Here is the guide to ROC. But for now you don;t have to do anything.

What is a usual outcome if one calls and hears the same stuff about "embassy sending slots and yetta yetta." then asks to talk to a supervisor? What can they do or what happens? 40 day wait for supervisor review or that only for documents? Or is this not even possible once case is closed?

I call twice a day to hear the same thing, "embassy sends slots in. When one is available for you it'll be scheduled." They cant say what place i am in line for one, they cant say if there is still availability just NOTHIN. Am I asking the wrong questions? Should I be saying it a different way? Every time we email (no phone calls allowed) the embassy clearly says "we do, yes, send them interview slots, however we have plenty of openings so I am not sure of what the hold up is. You would have to call nvc to ask. I would assume interview would be scheduled 3-7 days after case completed" I am getting so annoyed with this process :(:crying::cry:

I'm sorry. No you are asking the right questions. You won;t get a supervisor. I remember when I was going through NVC I called every day for 8 months (yes I was there 8 months) and that's how I got to learn so much I got some real knowledgeable folk that liked to talk. If you ever get Gus ask him anything he is the best.

Dwheel...anything on what it means when after interview it states administrative processing

Everyone goes through AP after interview. Usually last 2 to 4 days then Issued. Hang on.

Thank you for your response. Yes, the interviewer told my husband his case looked fine.

That was on tuesday, April 7. I guess its just taking them some time to update it.

Just to add to the "Administrative Processing" explanation...

After you have your interview, the CO has to enter the fact that you have been "approved" into the Embassy/Consulate system. This "approval" entry on the system generates an instruction to print visa foil (the page that is pasted into your passport). In some Embassies/Consulates, it appears that the visa foil is generated almost immediately after the CO gives you good news.

In other Embassies/Consulates, there appears to be a lag between the "you're approved" and when that critical visa foil is printed and applied.

This lag could be for many reasons. Perhaps they only print the foils once a day, or once every three days. Perhaps there is a double-check system where a supervisor has to look over all the approvals. Each Embassy/Consulate may have a different way to do it.

Last year there was a MAJOR glitch in the software that prints the visa foils, and it took nearly a week before the software was back online. Talk about people flipping out!!!!

So sometimes the "Administrative Processing" only means that you are in a print queue!!!

Does anyone else think that the backlog/hold-up that was affecting case creation about five months ago moved on to invoicing for the fees, then document review, and now interview scheduling? My logic is that cases seem to be completed much quicker over the past month which means that more and more are queuing for interview which is causing a delay in scheduling.

Now chronicling my experience in handy blog format at

Your observations make a lot of sense. This might be so, but the cases are going to different countries embassies. Not sure as to why it would slow down so much. Makes sense that they are trying to complete more cases than schedule interviews.

I would say definitely. Montreal filled up all of May with the first round of scheduling for May, it looks like--people were getting interview dates right to the end of the month--so I'm hoping to hear next week but think even if I do, it will be for June.

Met in 2010 on a forum for a mutual interest. Became friends.
2011: Realized we needed to evaluate our status as friends when we realized we were talking about raising children together.

2011/2012: Decided we were a couple sometime in, but no possibility of being together due to being same sex couple.

June 26, 2013: DOMA overturned. American married couples ALL have the same federal rights at last! We can be a family!

June-September, 2013: Discussion about being together begins.

November 13, 2013: Meet in person to see if this could work. It's perfect. We plan to elope to Boston, MA.

March 13, 2014 Married!

May 9, 2014: Petition mailed to USCIS

May 12, 2014: NOA1.
October 27, 2014: NOA2. (5 months, 2 weeks, 1 day after NOA1)
October 31, 2014: USCIS ships file to NVC (five days after NOA2) Happy Halloween for us!

November 18, 2014: NVC receives our case (22 days after NOA2)

December 17, 2014: NVC generates case number (50 days after NOA2)

December 19, 2014: Receive AOS bill, DS-261. Submit DS-261 (52 days after NOA2)

December 20, 2014: Pay AOS Fee

January 7, 2015: Receive, pay IV Fee

January 10, 2015: Complete DS-260

January 11, 2015: Send AOS package and Civil Documents
March 23, 2015: Case Complete at NVC. (70 days from when they received docs to CC)

May 6, 2015: Interview at Montréal APPROVED!

May 11, 2015: Visa in hand! One year less one day from NOA1.
