Are you sure she's demanding that you change the wedding date? She might just be saying that the wedding date isn't suitable "for her," in which case, it obviously isn't. Perhaps those were a poor choice of words, but unless she's actually expressed desire for you to change the date, I wouldn't automatically assume she wants you to do so.

At any rate, you're not there to please her. This is your wedding. Do as you please. :)

I'm gonna be the lone voice of dissent and give some food for thought. I've put myself in your position & have tried to think about how I'd handle it.

To me, it would depend on a lot of factors...whether or not my SO was really close to his sibling. Whether or not it would matter if she were there or not. I think an int'l wedding is soo fricken hard to arrange...we all know that. And it also depends on what type of wedding it is...if it's a very organized affair such as deposits, banquet halls, etc...and I guess it also would depend on how far down the line the planning went.

If it was really important to my SO to have family there, and the date chosen wasn't working for them, and I was fairly new into the arrangement process and it wouldn't disrupt a lot to change things to accomodate family, I'd prolly change the date within reason. If the date was a date that had special value to me & was highly important, then I wouldn't. But I would grit my teeth and try otherwise...my SO is giving up his life as he knows it for a life with me, and I would go out of my comfort zone to accomodate his past life to show him and his family that they are important, despite the fact that they are half the world away.

Then again, if she is just a snotty cow and doing it to be awkward, I wouldn't do a damn thing ;)

My mother said she wasn't able to come to our wedding in December 2005 because her husband was feeling weak and was not up to traveling. I'm very glad that I was understanding of his situation. You see, he was very weak--He died in January 2006. I would never have been able to handle it if I had insisted they come. I would have always wondered if it had been the trip that caused his death.

You know, playing devil's advocate here, you can't really assume that one day is going to be perfect for everyone. My sister decided to have her wedding on the day I had 3 final exams in college. I told her I might not be able to come if I can't reschedule them, she understood completely. Luckily, I had understanding professors and they let me reschedule. But, when you are getting married, and you pick a date, you have to come with the understanding that it might not work for some people for a range of reasons.

We chose a date that was close to a holiday weekend in Canada so my family could attend. I knew there were a few family members that wouldn't be able to come because of finances and that was fine.

What bothered me the most was when I found out my youngest brother ( who is wealthy) couldn't make the wedding because he decided that going camping was more important. What hurt even more was that that he was camping in Idaho which is one state above me. :(
