We just got a notification saying they had mailed it to NVC for processing dated yesterday. I was hoping it was already on its way, but oh well. Hopefully it will arrive by the end of the week.

TSC makes no sense. We got the NOA 2 a day after you yet "Case Was Sent To The Department of State" we received on the 4th June. I'm wondering if it's already at the NVC? Have you got through to the NVC yet?

Mine was sent about I would say 4 days after approval and I got our case number about just over a week later. And I found that if I called at 730 am est that I almost always got through pretty quick.

I've been calling NVC every day just in case, usually takes me about 6 calls to get on hold. I would call! It should hopefully be arriving there any day now.

No to alcohol test, but don't brag about how much you can put back in a week or evening or you will find yourself being further evaluated by a psychiatrist for addiction. Do you have any alcohol issues on your police certificate?

No issues, police certificate is clean.

He wanted to book medical for next week and we just wanted to make sure if he went snookering over the weekend and had a few pints it wasn't going to be a problem.

I had my medical today. They ask about alcohol consumption and whether you have any current or previous history of dependency. I don't drink much at all, and mentioned that I may drink 2 - 3 bottles of beer in one week, then go for weeks without touching alcohol. The doctor was happy with that and simply moved on to the next questions.

As Nich-Nick says, don't make a big deal about how much alcohol your partner can drink (that's if he can drink people under the table of course). At the same time, I don't know if they check blood alcohol levels in the blood test, but just to be on the safe side it may be prudent to keep off alcohol a few days prior to the medical. Saying that, if someone had a serious long term drink problem that may not help as they may already have damaged their live and the Liver Function Tests (LFT's) will indicate a problem in that area.

They screen for infectious sexually transmitted diseases...not alcohol, or weed, or liver function, or red blood cell counts, or antibodies, or cancer markers or any other number of things blood can screened for. It's for syphilis and such.

I saw one yellow topped blood collection bottle when they took my blood (I forget if he took any more, I was lying on the couch). The yellow topped bottle covers a huge number of possible blood test options, and they are also used for "microbiology/virology: serology for a wide variety of bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic infections including HIV and viral hepatitis", which would cover the blood borne STD's. I didn't know if they would also check some basic health markers too as part of the medical (i.e. Urea and Electrolytes and LFT's) as these could be done using the same bottles. I'm surprised they don't test for anything else, but the way the immigration process works (or often doesn't) nothing surprises me these days!

Is there a difference in time between the K-1 visa & the IR-1/ CR-1 visa? A couple just posted that they received their visa by delivery in 5 business days which is the fastest a visa has been delivered for awhile....just wondering if it's different because it's a different visa? Either that or the embassy just started sending out visas real fast.

Yes, there's a difference. Spouse visas are processed as immigrant visas. Very few are processed each day. Fiances are processed as non immigrants and when you see the hundreds of applicants at the embassy you will understand why it takes longer. This is my theory anyway. Until they made the changes at the beginning of May, k1 and CR1 were both processed as immigrants, hence the sudden increase in time for issuing K1 visas.

As I said, all speculation on my part, but I'd want to be proven wrong before seeing it differently.
