Thank you so much!!! We are getting married right away. July 11th actually. So that will help. I do remember reading all this before, but I think the long wait to be approved blocked all this out of my head lol. Thank you so much!!!

Haha- definitely understand that :) I think we all have experience a "brain fart" once or twice along the way. There is a lot to keep together and get together especially when you want to file as soon as you can. That's what I wasn't prepared for. I thought we would file maybe around the end of August- but then I found out about the EAD and so now we're back to panic mode lol. I know that at home I bookmarked some really good info. that Nich-Nick posted for me ....if you go back far enough you'd find it in the thread. But she's made cover letters for the AOS process among other things to really make the process less daunting. I definitely think about how lost I would be without this site often...or I'd be paying some lawyer $5000 to do for me what I've been able to do on my own with the help of VJ. It really is an amazingly helpful community of people we have here :):)

Ditto. Hopefully after we marry (July 10th), we will file right away so will be running around like crazy. I scheduled the time off yesterday. lol.

Then later in the fall have our real wedding.

Ohh boy! Better read up!

Here is my list of forms and documents you will file for Adjustment of Status. It makes a good checklist for you. I had a great deal of that done before my husband arrived because he didn't come for two months past his interview. Some things won't be available until he goes through POE...Point of Entry (immigration hall at the airport). We had AOS in the mail his 9th day in the country. The awful limbo period between entry and EAD approval was only 2 months and 11 days for him.

VJ has good sample forms filled out to help you and reading the form instruction is invaluable.

I have my W2 for AOS but I would like the original back if possible. I gave him a copy of it as well.

Here was my thought process with the financial documentation:

William wanted his original W2. I knew that all we needed was the I134 and perhaps a couple of pay slips and a letter from employer/bank. Those are not difficult for him to get but the W2 would be a pain to lose.

So I only took a copy of the W2. It is not an essential item.

Find one or two ways to prove income that are easy or not necessary to replace and submit those. The only thing they asked me for was the Affidavit of support. Because I had the other stuff paper clipped to it, while I was trying to take it apart, the guy just said I can pass it over as it is. He did not request anything else. My impression was that had I only had the I134, it would have been sufficient.

Yeah I mean i have the letter, W2 copies (cause we get electronic ones at work), and my transcripts from two years I think is what I gave him. We are double checking so I'm good with whatever, i mean I guess he could even not give them the letter unless they just asked for it maybe?

Called and got my case number today. The rep said that the case should be sent out to London in a few days, and to call in a week if I hadn't received a notice. I then asked him about entering the number on the website (which doesn't work), he seemed a bit miffed and said there was no need for me to check the number on the site.

By mathematical calculations in looking at the number, it was assigned to us on the 15th of May, so it's been a few days now, and I would think info would show up on the website. Yet the site is spouting out errors like a lot of people have reported. This is concerning to me and I don't know if it will delay anything in filling out his DS160?

What is the next course of action for us then? Waiting for his letter to come before filing out the form and booking the medical? Or can the form be filled out now?

The only other thing we're waiting on to come is his PC, which should be there in a few days time.

Just trying to guide him on what he should be doing now, besides waiting.. :P

I'm a bit more of a (calculated) risk taker. I booked the medical as soon as I received my case number. I booked it for 10 days after the case number had been assigned and had I been able to get an earlier appointment, I would have done so. The case arrived at the embassy the day before I attended the medical. It depends at what level you feel comfortable with pushing things. I don't see an issue with it, but if it causes anxiety then it's not worth pushing things quite as fast, or at least, book the medical a couple of weeks out to allow time for the case to get to London.

Regarding the website, that is a major nuisance! It is still working for me and it seems that the issue is affecting case numbers recently assigned, but not those which have previously been functional.

For the DS 160 there is nothing stopping you from completing and submitting it as soon as you are ready. It will float in the system until the embassy has everything else from you and once you submit your readiness form, you enter the confirmation number on that.

For the most part I think we don't want to go into this blindly. He's willing to wait a little bit, until we have notice. He's still struggling to work a difficult job at the same time as getting the medical. There's a holiday coming up soon, so I'd assume and estimate even with that delay, the consulate may receive the case by later next week or the first week in June. We'll try and see if we can get the appointment for the second or third week in June.

I'm a little frazzled today.. my mom's surgery is in a few days, my dryer just broke down, the minister I wanted to use has pulled out so I'm back to square one there, and now the NVC website is a dud (can the government not get anything to work right for once???).

Think I just need a break of not worrying about this so much. :P

Off topic but....

I don't know if you use "portals" in the menu bar to see what Brits are posting in other forums, but I love this post by a Brit who just became a US Citizen. Check out the photo he took at his naturalization ceremony.

How long since you did your readiness or medical, whichever was last? AND NVC sometimes are helpful sometimes not. And embassy will not discuss it unless it's been more than 3/4 weeks since you submitted stuff. The waiting is hard I know and frustrating.
