Awesome! Things move quickly? I wouldn't think so, but the video was quite funny and would lead you to think so

If you have everything and know how to find it easily, the paperwork processing goes very quickly. The rest seems to vary widely.

Ok great thank you. I'll have to figure out how to do a little organizing form afar. Here is my question though. To make sure I'm understanding. You just gave them all originals of everything and they then returned them? Except the affidavit and supporting documents? And If they take tour original of the work letter for income proof how can you also use that to file for aos? Send a copy?

Yes, they take all the originals at the first window. They are passed to the interviewer who returns them to you at the interview window.

I would imagine for AOS that you just get a new letter from employer. I did not give the original W2. I only took a copy. I would thing that the appropriate Affidavit of Support required and new pay slips and bank statements, employers letters (which will be more recently dated) would be what you submit for AOS, as not everyone does it immediately after arrival. For example, ours would have been several months old and we are doing AOS within a month of POE so my guess is that we would have wanted to submit more recent proof in any case.

By the way, for those who don't like dressing up, I went to my interview in jeans and a fitted sweater. I could't imagine being denied based on what I was wearing, as long as it was presentable and not distasteful or inappropriate attire. I've seen regular questions as to what to wear and have never been convinced that extra effort is required. I'm sure it is appreciated, but not essential. You need to feel confident and comfortable in what you are wearing. :)

I'm confused now? I thought the AOS was collected and entered at the interview. Does it happen at a later time?

AOS doesn't happen until after you get married and file for Adjustment of Status. The interview is to approve your K-1 application. There's an entire guide on filing for AOS once you or your fiancé enter the United States.

Ok...so just want to make sure I'm on the same wavelength lol.....so they give back all of the other documents you bring with the exception of the Affidavit of Support and the supporting documents? Just wondering because I may need to email work again and ask them for the employment letter again for AOS. Will he get his birth certificate back?

Also- I know you didn't write anything about standing in line because others have already mentioned it in their right ups- but is there something specific you need to know about the line?

Thanks for the info! It's definitely a great help for those getting ready :):)

The AOS is the affidavit of support right? Maybe I'm just confused. I feel like everything is running together. I saw adjustment of status and now thinking I misunderstood lol

The Affidavit of Support is your I-134 that you filled out with your supporting documents....that's just to show you can support your foreign fiancé. AOS is the entire adjustment of status that occurs when you get married and are applying for the green card. But you should read through all the guides for AOS because there is also the EAD (work authorization) and AP (Advanced Parole) that you want to apply for as well. That is also the part of your journey that will cost you $1070 to file

I'm not sure what you're asking, but as far as photocopies and originals--in general if it has a signature like employer letter, it should be original. Pay slips, tax returns, W2s have been accepted as photocopies. They will hand back your original documents like birth certificate or divorce decree.

For your AOS, you may have to start over with your employer getting a new letter. It is a totally new and separate process. Interview/visa is Dept of State and AOS is USCIS. Think of it as starting over from scratch.

If you really want your employer letter back, then take a photocopy and ask the interviewer if it would be possible for him to file a photocopy and let you have the original back for adjustment of status.

If Neil is anything like my fiancé/husband, he will go brain dead at the window and forget all the organizing you tried. I was there in person and he acted like he understood but obviously didn't.

If you read posts by IR1/CR1 spouse visa people, they use AOS as an acronym for Affidavit of Support. If you read K1 fiancé posts, they use AOS to stand for Adjustment of Status (applying for greencard after marriage.

haha yes you figured out what I was trying to ask. It was a huge pain to get the letter and my salary won't change until after the first of the year and I have my W2 for AOS but I would like the original back if possible. I gave him a copy of it as well. Everything else we have multiple originals so while it is nice to get them back it wouldn't be awful except with that one lol And oh yes I have no doubts he'll be super nervous and forget where I put everything and everything. I'll have to figure out how to help him organize it all now that we have all of it into a neat separate file from the other stuff. lol It'll be an interesting day bless his heart. lol Course I would be super nervous myself. lol Thank you :)

Click on the link I posted above....there's a lot of information and you really want to be up to speed on everything before you file. And as someone told me (and it was good advice)- if you want your fiancé (or you- I'm not sure who the foreign fiancé is yet)...if you want them to be able to work soon, get a driver's license, open a bank account, etc., etc....it really is in your best interest to get married and file ASAP. My fiancé and I have our big wedding in September- but we are going to be getting married as soon as we can when he gets here so we can file our AOS and get him his work authorization. But all of the ladies on this forum are very helpful so don't hesitate to ask questions :)

Thank you so much!!! We are getting married right away. July 11th actually. So that will help. I do remember reading all this before, but I think the long wait to be approved blocked all this out of my head lol. Thank you so much!!!
