I got FP done on 5/11/15 in NJ. Have not received any updates after that. Event the online status check page still has the old information (like we received your application......)

How is the processing time in Newark, NJ?

Looking through the timelines on VJ for your field office, its averaging around 4 months or so from the time you file. That is just an estimate though and I don't know for sure. Don't feel left out though, that update tool on the USCIS website doesn't update for me either.

Hearing both of you I feel a little relieved now. I had my fingerprint about the same time as jerseyboys, but in NYC, and have the exact situation now (hearing nothing further, nor has there been any updates on website). Waiting doesn't make me as anxious as unpredictability.

I thought NYC is about the same pace as Newark? Should have moved back to Jersey and applied there is it'd be faster... sigh...

Is anyone changing their names? I heard from a couple of people they were denied name change at the time of the interview. Sounds weird because USCIS isn't the authority to grant that decision. ...

And how do i add my stats to the time line?

I don't think USCIS can deny name changes at the time of interview.

USCIS doesn't have the authority to grant or deny name change requests, but they cannot process such a request in districts that do not schedule judicial oath ceremonies. There are some districts that only hold administrative oath ceremonies because the courts have decided not to hold any judicial ceremonies. In these districts, USCIS cannot process a name change request. If you live in one of these areas, the interviewer will cross out the name change section of the application if you have filled it out. You will get your naturalization certificate in your legal name at the time of the application. There are exceptions if the name change is due to marriage.

Thanks! That's what probably happened. 2 of my friends (in different areas) were told they can't change the name through naturalization. I guess there's nothing you can do.

I probably messed up on my timeline, but i filed and got the letter in April, not May

Can you tell us where your two friends were and whether they were told that they couldn't change their names or that it would cause a delay?

The last I had heard, the only offices that refuse name changes were in Northern California, but that may have changed.

Just received the interview letter for 07/06/2015.

Wife is also applying with me and has the same interview date. Unfortunately, she has international travel in those dates and looks like we have to re-schedule.

My GC is expiring 12/2015. I am planning to go for the interview and only re-schedule wife's appointment, since my GC is expiring soon. Anything special to consider in such a scenario ?

I've read about cases where rescheduling requests are processed properly and the interview is rescheduled within a month or two.

I've also read about requests gone wrong, resulting in delays of several months.

It's about 50-50 with the cases I've read about, but that probably means there are many other cases that are problem-free.

Personally, I would not consider a rescheduling an interview except in emergency circumstances, but people do it all the time without problems.

If your wife does cancel her appointment, take her appointment letter with you to your interview and double check with your interviewer; he/she may agree to check whether or not the appointment was successfully rescheduled.
