JP exactly the prnounce is the difference ...about the word Taieb " we never use it in Egypt to describe something tasty but I know the rest of the Arabic countries do..

Taieb in Egypt means only these 2 meanings ..KIND or Yeah I will

Yeah I remember once my cousin from Jordan went to Sharm il Sheikh and they were talking to an Egyptian police officer asking him some questions. He said something and she answered him "la2 ya zalameh" and he got very serious and quiet. I guess her brother in law who was with her at the time knew that its a rude thing to address an egyptian man "ya zalameh" but its so common to say that in Jordan and its not considered disrespectful there.

rofl.....nothing to do with your post but that freakin' cat keeps making me laugh so hard!!! :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

I don't know what Zalemah means I know it's from Jordan But we understand that it measn "my friend" is that what it means???we don't have this word at all!!!

Zalameh means man, and apparently that offended him for some reason that I still don't get. Everytime she says it now, she looks around to make sure there are no egyptian guys. :lol:

The office must thought she was saying "ys my friend" we don't know in Egypt that zalemah means MAN that's really funny we all think it means "My friend" since it sound like " Zameel" which is not a good thing to say to someone you met for the first time esp.an officer:)

The other thing I just though of is that a lot of people probebly use words that are "egyptian" without realizing it. Since so many movies and tv shows are made there, it has probebly been integrated into the local dialects.

Well it kinda does, it has more than one meaning.

Zalameh - Man

La2 ya zalameh - no way man, its commonly used in friendly conversation. Similar to saying "La2 ya 3amee"

When I was in Jordan, my cousin got pulled over by a cop. There were several of us in the car, his sister in the front with him and 3 girls in the back. He asked my cousin to step out of the car, he asked him if I was married. :lol:

from what Noor has taught me.. a lot of the difference between Egyptian arabic and Jordanian arabic is that j = jordanian and g=egyptian

ie.

hijab = jordanian

higab = egyptian

another is the "th"

ie.

I can only give an american description coz i can't think of arabic words to use...

something = jordanian

somezing = egyptian

those are the 2 that come to mind right off.... hope that helps

Can we do an Egyptian arabic word thread? I'm so unmotivated to learn but I really really really have to start asap. I don't know what's wrong with me lately.

Ok so I figured it needs to be egyptian since the others are so different. :)

My word for today is Shukran, which is thank-you. (wicked easy since I know it already. lol.)

Shukran for continuing this thread :luv:

Just as long as you use these words with your husband when you talk to him, then I think this will actually help you a lot.

EzayIk= How are you? (for a female) EzayAk= How are you? (for a male)

Just like Moody said, you can answer by saying.. Alhamdulilah Kwa-yis-sa (lol..i broke it down for you) ..Meaning thanks to God, I am doing well. If not, you can say... Mish Kwa-yis-sa ..meaning you are not doing well.

Good luck, you can do it.. you just have to practice a bit..Once you come back from your trip in Egypt..you'll be surprised how much you know. :thumbs:
