Swedish marriage certificate- HELP!

I am swedish, my husband is american, we got married in sweden. We filed our application 7 months ago and just got a letter saying we need to show evidence of our marriage. I have sent them the 120 form (Personbevis in english) and that is the same one the embassy requested as a marriage certificate when we reported our daughters birth. Now they are saying we need to giv them more proof, aka a marriage certificate- But sweden does´t have that! What do I do? Anyone? Please help.

Did you have personbeviset signed and stamped by so someone at Skatteverket, i.e. certified?

Yes. The english one, the "120" that replaces all swedish ones, signed and stamped.

That's weird cause I know other Swedes on here who sent in personbevis as proof of marriage in Sweden. How about along with another copy of the personbevis, you send a signed affidavit from Skatteverket confirming that you are married by Swedish standards to your foreign husband? That's the only thing I can think of, sorry. My husband and I got married in Texas so we didn't have that issue. Hope it works out for you.

What exactly was the wording on the letter you received? Are you sure they aren't looking for proof as to the bonafides of your marriage?

"Submit a photocopy of the original marriage certificate for the marriage of ****** ***** ****** and ***** *********. The marriage certificate must be issued by an appropriate civil authority. In order for the marriage to be valid for immigration purposes, it must have been registered with a civil authority from the location where the marriage took place. The document must include the date of registration and the signature of the registrar. If the marriage took place after July 1, 1991, the marriage record can be obtained from the local tax office of the Swedish Tax Agency (skatteverket), which covers the area of residence at the time of marriage. "

Since I have sent them a certified original with stamps and signatures from the tax office, in english, I´m not sure about what they are looking for here. I sent them the same kind of dokument as the american embassy request as a marriage certificate, aka the 120 form. I also included the unofficial card you get from the priest, stating our names, dates and the priest´s signature. Also in english.

They haven´t asked for proof that we´re a "real" couple, they are just asking about this document that I already have provided for them. We have water proof evidence that we´re in love for real, not only all the emails, Facebook conversations, Skype, pictures, all the boardinpasses and such, but a child together that we EVEN dna tested to show that it´s my husbands baby.

We don´t have any other marriage certificates in Sweden, so this is kind of freaking me out.

Could it be that they lost the document and think you haven't included one? I've heard others here say how documents have been lost. Best thing is probably to call USCIS and talk to them about.

I haven´t even considered the fact that they´ve lost the document. Now when I think about it, that is the only reasonable explanation... Well, I have ordered a new one from the tax office, with a paper that say´s this is the paper that replaces a marriage certificate. I also found a certified copy of the form the priest sent to the tax office, and a certified copy of the wedding records from the church, with dates and such. I´m having those translated by an authorized translator, complete with stamps and all. If they´re still arguing about it, I will have all 42 Personbevis printed, stamped and translated for them.

An original or court certified, sealed copy of the Marriage Certificate issued by the appropriate authorities in the country in which the marriage took place. Church certificates are not acceptable. Marriage certificates in languages other than Swedish or English must be translated by an authorized translator into Swedish or English. The original certificate must be presented along with any translation. Original certificate and one photocopy.

If the marriage took place in Sweden: A Swedish marriage certificate is a “Personbevis” issued in the name of one of the parents, stating the name of the spouse and is issued by the Swedish tax authorities (Skatteverket). It must state both spouses’ names, dates and places of birth, and date of marriage. This must be submitted on a separate Personbevis. Church certificates, “Vigselbevis”, are not acceptable.

That is pretty specific then. I would include a copy of the following with relevant part highlighted for them as well:

This is the site that sort of lists acceptable documentation by country for USCIS/DHS.

It is the case from time to time that adjudicators are not familiar enough with certain types of proof of marriage, especially given that they don't see a lot of cases from Sweden.

Thank you! yeah, the person might not realize it´s a english "personbevis" I have given them, since it does´t say "personbevis" but "extraction of the population register". Thank you all who helped me with this, it means a lot and I feel a lot calmer. i´ll let you know how it goes!

Ok. Got a hold of a document from Skatteverket stating as follow

"Enclosure to "Extract of the population register" regarding ******-****, Lillapigany.

Attached document is the only document in english a person in sweden can get to prove his or her name, date and place of birth, population registration, citizenship and civil status."

It´s certified by the tax office with signature and all. It´s a new document you can ask to get attached with the english personbevis.

I´m hoping this, with the other documents I have, will be enough.

Good luck, I have a U.S marriage certificate but I had to hunt down my "birth certificate" which is the baptisimal birth record. They had it in the archives, where old documents are. lol.... Oh, if I can offer a advice, even if the Familjebevis is good enough for the immigration, get the baptisimal one to have with you in the U.S. You might need that in the future for other things.

Since I was born in Huddinge, my particular birth record was at Stadsarkivet in Stockholm, and I was born before 1991. I'm guessing you should search at your county's (Län) Pastorsämbete, but unfortunately I forgot exactly how I found it. Think I read how to find it by the us.travel site and read the required documents, and I clicked Sweden on a small drop-down menu.
