We are just about to start the process of filing the paperwork for a Fiance Visa. It will be the Vermont office as I will be relocating to Virginia from west of Toronto. Two questions, what paperwork will I need (I ask this because I can't seem to find if there is a list anywhere, so I can make sure I have it all before I am going to need it. Question two is, can I go to the Consulate office in Toronto since all I have seen here is Montreal and Vancouver? Please help this newbie.

there are only 2 consulates in Canada that process K visas, they are Montreal and Vancouver. For Ontario residents you have to go to Montreal. No ifs ands or buts. We've all had to do it. The train ride is nice tho ;)

For your interview, you'll need your long form birth certificate (not the wallet sized one most Ontarians carry around), an RCMP police certificate, plus you have to have a medical exam ahead of time, and that is not covered by OHIP, you have to pay for it out of pocket. There should be a list under the FAQ in the K1 section.

You can download the forms from USCIS and read the instructions to get yourself prepared.

Best of luck. Its nerve wracking, but pretty easy really.

Thanks for the info Reba.

So much to figure all out, and sad to hear I have to go to Monteal since I don't get any holidays until August from my present job not to mention they may let me go if they find out I am going to leave. Hopefully the petition can be filed and I can get it all done on my holidays so won't have to worry about it since I need to keep my job until I do leave.

its hard to say with the Vermont processing centre then Montreal tho. Its very unlikely your interview will coincide with your available holiday time. But then once you have the interview you can move straight away, so even if you do get fired, you don't need that job anyway! :D;)

Just call in sick for a couple of days if you have to.

At the top of each page you'll see a set of blue tabs; the Guides are very helpful and include the lists you are looking for.

You'll also find detailed info for Montreal and Vancouver in the Embassy Info & Review sections (blue bar, top of page, under the photos).

First of all, welcome to VJ :)

Secondly, along with the great advice in this thread, I humbly suggest you take a look at the first two links in my signature. These links will take you to the two Canuck Clearing House threads, where we have been putting together links to Canadian related information (about the consulates, medicals, and so much more) in one place to make it a bit easier to find. And keep asking questions, most of us are been there, done that or are in the process and we can help you along. :)
