Is administrative processing a normal step after the interview?

We had our K-1 visa interview yesterday, and today the ceac website says AP. I know sometimes it's one day before "issued," sometimes it's weeks. Any idea what percentage of cases say AP at some point? Do most go directly from "ready" to "issued"?

Now I feel totally stupid! My fiancée's visa was approved at the interview yesterday. Today, I got worried when the status showed "administrative processing," which is why I posted this thread. But after only a couple of hours in AP status, the ceac website changed and it is now "issued." Well, I guess that answers my question. :)

That's one of the fastest turnaround for visa issuance that I have seen. My answer was going to be "no one knows" as each case is held on it's own merits. Normal processing was between 7 and 10 business days.

Well, anywooo - Good luck and Congrats. Welcome to These United States.

People have posted that they were Issued the same day as interview here in VJ. CEAC is not completely what it appears. Plan on at least 10 working days. Spouses tend to be a little faster and those pregnant or with children.

Our case was one that showed "ISSUED" the afternoon of our interview. (Actually since we went out and about after the morning interview, it had already showed ISSUED by the time I checked CEAC). Got the visa relatively quick after that.

I had to laugh because your such a detailed individual (good quality to have) that the CO didn't have anything to do because you had everything in order for her to process [paperclip here, paperclip there, sign off here] your visa same day.

Everyone gets Administrative Processing. Most of the time it is nothing but the clerical work of checking the file to make sure nobody forgot anything, completing the forms, and printing the visa.

AP got a bad rep because sometimes it involves more extensive things that take weeks or months. But unless you are from some specific nations, that is rare. Most of us get the benign version, that seems to last between 1 and 10 days.

Sometimes your file moves between AP and READY two mor more times, and other times it jumps right to ISSUED. There is no rhyme or reason for which one happens.

But even if it jumps statuses more than once, that is a good sign. That tells you someone is working on it.
