So are you a homophobe? If not, why not? Do you think a fundamentalist Christian who does not support gay marriage is a homophobe? Does that mean you deny their religious freedom to exercise their religion simply because you disagree with their religious belief? Other than the extremes on both sides, you will learn that the majority of Americans do not want to cause harm, and are not afraid of same sex folks. That is a mirage that folks like you believe as sold to you by your extremist news shows. But that's cool. It's nothing new.

There is no rational reason to oppose gay marriage. Anyone who does so is bigoted against homosexuals, either in a passive sense or in the homophobic sense.

Okay, you've expressed your opinion. You see, the difference between the US and the UK is that here in this country, we allow differences of opinion and freedom of religion. Now, if that bunches your panties, you should paint a sign and head to Washington to whine about your perceived injustices there.

It will be funny to see the haters faces when gay marriage is legal all over. Marriage = legal contract, not religious document.

well, i was raised christian and i was a homophobe (an angry, ranting one at that) until about the age of 18-19.

i think a fundamentalist christian who does not support gay marraige should not marry a gay person (in other words, mind your own business).

oh and i know the tides are changing with regard to tolerance of LGBT. this is a good thing. and honestly, any business owner who wants to refuse service to someone based upon their sexual preference should just be left alone to go out of business, because that's what will happen - especially in the service industry.

and this has nothing to do with any extremist news shows, lol. anyone who has been alive and aware in this country over the past twenty years knows the great improvements that have been achieved for tolerance of LGBT folks.

You are correct, it is an opinion. If it's one you happen to personally disagree with I'm happy to discuss it.

Indeed today, a lot more folks are tolerant of same sex anything and when contrasted to 50 years ago, the perceptions have changed a lot. Still, there are more than 30,000 (thirty thousand) different denominations that claim to be Christian. Are they all right? All wrong? Some right, some wrong? The laws of America provide for the freedom of folks to practice their religion and beliefs and to be free of government persecution. These laws do not provide a free ticket to berate or harm anyone who self identifies as being a same sex person. The oppression you think is happening, is NOT happening. You can bet your sweet bippy that anyone who loses their job, or is discriminated against for being gay, would be page one in the NYT, headline on CNN, and MSNBC. Where are all those stories? With so many folksbitching about being oppressed on the basis of their sexual orientation, the stories of acceptance and tolerance are ignored.

Within the bounds of the existing framework of laws, that's true. However that can lead people to think that expanding marriage should also include other civil unions that exist outside of that framework - like legitimising polygamy and what not.

The stories about homophobia that make news are not about losing jobs, they are about being beaten up or assaulted for being LBGT. Now why don't you take your 1950's mindset and go read up on the Constitution. Especially the first Amendment, it might blow your mind.

Marriage is a legal contract between TWO people. Not between three, four, a thousand... It is also not between a person and an animal. That is such a tired excuse it is sad.

This is starting to sound familiar. For the umpteenth, hundredth time, (when you brought this up in the past) homosexuality has nothing to do with polygamy. Polygamy doesn't need to legalized. It will just be legal oppression of women. That is it. When a man wants more than one wife he is just looking to oppress, abuse and misuse.
