hi brentos,

i'm sure your following

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/546619-scan-datescase-completeinterview-thread/

but if not, you might want to have a look. This thread is not country specific but will give you a good idea if you wish to go EP or mail/courier once you get your NOA2. There was a time where snail mail was like a 25-31 day approval after scan date and those, like me, who EP were screaming!!! Remember once you EP you cannot change the process, so if you get a checklist you will need to EP the documents. People on this thread usually are pretty savvy and can give you a good indication...why not make a post to ask?

things with immigration, whether it be uscis or nvc, in my opinion will always appear to be broken as situations/needs change all the time. For example, our case arrived at uscis months after the philippine crisis (think it was typhoon haiyan) and we struggled with those cases being expedited and our sitting (but we were not alone). another example was nsc and tsc were swamped with applications and taking their sweet old time with them while csc was much faster and far less busy. in fact, many cases were transferred out of nsc and sent to csc for quicker processing. i believe uscis and nvc do try to process quickly but when loads/demands change they may not be able to make the changes needed because they are government agencies.

when we put in our app in late jan/14 we seriously expected to be done uscis by june/july, finished with nvc by dec/jan and POE by feb/15. well, may is almost over and i still don't have the visa in passport (well should be there by month's end, fingers crossed). and these were generous expectations. we did k1 the process back in 2011 and sailed through with an approval but cancelled it after researching my pension (long story) so we knew we were good to go and with passing it once (they had all our docs) we figured the second time would be a breeze. not so.

we counted our chickens before they were hatched--not a great idea with immigration. one never knows what goes on. as transparent as they have to be, they aren't.

keep your optimism as it is this that will pull you through the trying times. few seem to pass through this without hickups, so it best be keep those synergies and aim for november and be pleasantly surprised if it happens. if it doesn't, know that your NOA2, cc, medical, and interview approval are coming and they're just around 'some' corner.

good luck!

ps, at this point its a good idea to add a signature timeline, it helps people when giving advice. go into my settings, then signature to add one.

Hello,

Thank you for the link to the thread I had seen it before, but had lost track of it. I am not following it. From the spreadsheet it is really hard to tell if EP is getting better. The last few have been shorter, but the sample size is very small. So hard to tell. I guess I will have to check again once I get closer to actually sending anything to them.

I'm a bit of a planner so I kind of like to have things lined up. Mind you I feel like I have been falling behind in the process...so I need to get on gathering stuff up for the NVC. Just with the long wait to NOA2 and everything else going on in our lives, the stress has been getting to me quite a bit. So I have become slightly less productive lately haha.

For the broken part I totally understand what you mean about it being ever changing. And I have spent tons of time looking at stats on the USCIS website, etc. to understand it all..which doesn't really work. The broken I was referring to now was actually how the NVC site doesn't seem to be working and isn't letting anyone pay fees or fill in the forms. Or at least that is what I have gathered from here on VJ.

When we were first starting this process, I had done tons of research...in all the wrong places it seems. Or the research was out dated. So I was thinking we would be done everything and me moving to the US in 6 or 7 months. Once I found VJ we moved as quick as we could to file but it still took us 2 months after our wedding to gather all the documents, send stuff back and forth for signatures and all that. I wish we would have been able to move faster there, but it is what it is now. I'm hoping to somehow be there this year. I don't know if it will happen but I still have hope. Would make it a lot easier on my wife and I with everything going on. I feel so completely out of control with the whole process because beyond sending stuff in when you can...you don't control anything. And I am not a "control freak" or anything but I am used to other things in life working a certain way, things take a certain time...so this is very different for me as I am sure it is for a lot of people.

Thank you very much for the advice and I hope you get your visa in hand soon.

I've added a timeline to my signature, what little I currently have to add haha.

I totally hear you as well, and I agree with mrs thb (she's a VERY wise person!!). This is not a "logical" process, and if you expect it to be such, you will just be continually disappointed. That said, being proactive and organized is a good way to stay sane and ensure a smoother ride during your interview.

I would suggest checking in with the USCIS at 5 months to make sure the file is being looked at. We did that and ended up with an RFE BUT that was only because our legal counsel wasn't well versed in which Canadian documents should be sent. If we didn't check at 5 months, when they say their average processing time is, who knows how long before we would have found out about the RFE. SO my advice is, to keep yourself sane, you can do little things like that along the way. Being part of this thread or the NVC thread or whatever is good to stay prepared and so ahead of the game.

During our interview yesterday there seemed to be a few people missing docs etc, and they left disappointed. As SuziQ found, you can NEVER be sure that they will not ask something that you were told wasn't needed but they wanted, BUT that still means you get your visa, just a bit delayed. SO being over prepared is probably not a bad thing in the big scheme of things, since we cannot read minds. At least I can't:)

So you are doing the right things. There is a lot of good advice on VJ (along with some not so good), but at least it gives you a leg up on others who don't come on here.

The NVC thread helped me a lot while I was there, but to be honest, THIS particular thread helped me the most. If you look through it, it does give you some info on what we were told, docs needed etc. that's fairly recent. Keep on looking at the EP times on the NVC thread, although brentos honestly, no ONE can predict how slow or fast they will go. They seem to have been getting better, even for those who got checklists which were reviewed within a few weeks, so stay positive. All you can do is try to stay positive.

I don't know if any of this helped, but there you go. My 2 cents. Take good care!

Thank you for the advice. I really appreciate it. I am just trying to remain positive and hopefully it will all go smoothly.

We did the paperwork on our own. Well mostly me and I sent it to my wife and she added the rest, signed and sent it off. Hopefully we did everything right. I know I made one error but from what I read here it should be okay (I forgot to write the consulate name because I thought the section was all about only if you were adjusting status...but from what I read here it should be okay). But I still have that fear that I did something wrong.

I just want the process to move forward, I am wanting to get to the NVC so that I am doing something. But even then I know it will just be more waiting at some points. But it is still something :)

Thanks again for the advice. Best of luck :)

Okay...it has been a C. R. A. Z. Y. few days, so I am now just getting a minute to sit down at my computer!

First, thank you for all the congratulations! It has finally just started to sink in that in just over a month I will pack up a Uhaul and go HOME finally!! Also, thank you all for the advice and being here to bounce questions off of!! It has been such a blessing to have this group of people!!

Second, Mag: I hope that you made it home safely and made it through work on Sunday!! I was thinking about ya! I also hope that you have had some time now to crash and relax!! I just checked CEAC and my status is still "ready" though it was updated again on Saturday...I think it will all be good tomorrow...I will be checking a lot until it is!

Third, TwoChickies: please thank Mr. Chickies for me! When I couldn't sleep the night before my interview I read through his very detailed and awesome review and tried to visualize it all. It really helped calm my nerves and made me feel more prepared!! I'm going to pay it forward and work on writing my review tonight!

Lastly, Mrs thb...I'm not sure what your travel plans were so you may already be in Montreal. The hubby and I had a delicious Italian dinner and then met Mag at a nice bar for a drink the night before our interview! I would recommend both places, but I'm not very helpful because I can't remember the names of either of them! Regardless they were both within a few blocks of the Embassy and we walked by a lot of other places as well and I really don't think you can go wrong with any place in that area! I am sending you good vibes or juju as I call it but I'm sure you are very calm, relaxed and ready for tomorrow! I hope that things go smoothly for you! Just as a heads up, when Mags and I were there they let in all the non-immigrant visa people first at 7:30am and didn't start letting in the immigrant visa people until 8am. We were turned away because our appointment times were 9:30 and 10 but we knew that may happen and we were not allowed to bring in anyone with us. It's so fun now that I've been there, I can picture everything you're going to see...so I will be there in spirit with you tomorrow!! All the best to you!
