A psych assessment is needed? I don't see that listed anywhere...just curious

I had a hospitalization for a psychiatric problem nearly a decade ago, with no recurrence. It was an isolated issue, but the hospital's wonderfully unethical doctors had written nasty, nasty things on my chart so I paid for a full psych assessment to have something to overcome the notes I knew I would have to present at the medical.

Most people do NOT need this.

Met in 2010 on a forum for a mutual interest. Became friends.
2011: Realized we needed to evaluate our status as friends when we realized we were talking about raising children together.

2011/2012: Decided we were a couple sometime in, but no possibility of being together due to being same sex couple.

June 26, 2013: DOMA overturned. American married couples ALL have the same federal rights at last! We can be a family!

June-September, 2013: Discussion about being together begins.

November 13, 2013: Meet in person to see if this could work. It's perfect. We plan to elope to Boston, MA.

Love keeping you company in this process NAT:) Not sure if you like history stuff, but I love the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, it's just beautiful. Ste Catherine street has lots of cute places to hang out and have a cup of coffee (or at least it DID in the past). I used to go to McGill and spent a LOT of time on Ste Catherine, but with less coffee and more wine! I love Egg-spectations for a good breakfast - it was there WAY before the Toronto location, and it's nice. And I used to frequent Carlos and Pepes as a student for good Mexican food.

Yay for medical being done!!!! I am living vicariously here;)

ahhh sweet, NAT!!! nothing better than new life in spring...:) sounds beautiful.

Okay, I had my medical at Dr M today in Toronto. I drove and let me tell you parking in this neck of the woods is horrible. Green P was either full or way out in the boonies. Street parking was the pits. I ended up risking a ticket and towing by parking illegally in a unmanned permit only parking lot.....luck was on my side and I slipped through the cracks (which, btw, prompted me to purchase a ticket for both lotto max and 649 for this weekend!).

anyways Dr M office is on the south west side, right at the corner, on bathurst and st. clair. When i googled it on both google and mapquest it did not show perfectly. its on the 3rd floor. the xray lab is in the basement and the blood clinic is across the street, to the left, and at the end of the block.

since i got there a bit late (parking) the receptionist greeted me with a hello and mumbled a bunch of stuff all awhile looking at her computer screen. guess warm welcomes aren't appreciated or....given. I was provided with 5-6 pages of docs to complete with laminated samples. I sat down (there was about 5 people waiting) and completed the forms in 5 minutes maybe less (it wasn't necessary to complete the entire page on each form). When done, i returned my completed paper work and sample docs, and the voice behind the monitor asked for my passport photos ( 4 american sized), my passport and vaccination papers. I sat down again only to notice a sign "We are forced to report rue or offensive bahaviour to immigration and insurance companies. Thank you for your courtesy. Dr L. M." hummm this got me thinking about the voice behind the counter hidden behind the screen and curbed my enthusiasm to comment to the doc about his super friendly staff ;). The voice called out my name and returned my passport and vac form.

As i waited my turn several others walked in and were treated similarly. However, I did happen to note how the voice became friendly when someone within the building came to chat....humm interesting.

Within 15 minutes i was called into a room. While waiting not more 5 minutes in my private room the doctor had screened 2 other Canadians wishing to immigrate (in other separate rooms). When the doc came to me, he closed the door, verified my address, assumed since I was from out of town I would be having his docs shipped (to me) for an additional $50. He verified my address, asked me my height and weight, took my blood pressure, asked if i was healthy and then he wrote out the receipt to which i gave him $350 in cash. He then told me where to go for the xrays and blood work (which was only for VD!!!! get that!!!). It took all of 3 minutes!!! What a money grab!!! I think I'm going back to school and changing careers :)!!!!

the xrays were quick maybe 15 minute wait. the receptionist took the papers the doc gave me and he asked for proof of my MTL case number (I thought this peculiar) when i got to the blood work clinic there were 5 people ahead of me....another speedy in and out...

happy to report it was easy...and quick....hope your's is just a smooth!

btw, anyone heading into toronto in the next bit, be aware part of spadina is under construction, so it should be avoided.

I can't believe that Spadina is under construction AGAIN. It took YEARS to sort out the new streetcars. Uuuuuuurgh.

Yeah, the receptionist asked for proof of my MTL number at Medisys, too. Maybe they've had problems with numbers being transposed by patients before or something.

Also, if you're stressed and need to relax and love animals, go check out the Cafe Chat L'Heureux. It's a cat cafe, meaning you can go have lunch or a snack and pet some friendly kitties. Best destresser EVER. I went yesterday. The food was amazing and the kitties made me so happy.

I was walking from the Redpath Museum to the Botanical Gardens (about a 2 hour walk) along Duluth and I was just thinking 'I should stop somewhere for lunch' when I saw a cafe with a cat logo and thought 'oh, how cute!' and then I saw that it was the Cat Cafe, which is the first of its kind in North America. They're more popular in Asia, especially Japan, from what I understand. The whole place is set up with shelves and walkways near the ceiling so the cats can rest from being around people and there are beds set up all around the edges. Some cats are napping while others feel playful and you may gently pet a sleeping cat but you are forbidden from waking them so they can have their rest. It was well laid out and SO cute. They have rugs set out so you can sit on the floor and play with cats or you can sit at a table and just look and the staff encourage people to use toys to play with the kitties.

I thought the same thing! I'm allergic to cats but we may end up there anyway.

Thank you for the recommendations!! The gardens and cafe sound wonderful!! It's so nice having made friends through this process. Y'all are amazing.

I'll keep you guys updated on any other really cool stuff I find. So far, everything I have done has been free (aside from the cost of getting something to eat in the cat cafe). Today I'm going to walk Old Montreal and tomorrow I'm going back to the Botanical Gardens to walk some of the gardens I didn't have time for (it was getting late and I'd been walking for about seven or eight hours) and I'll pay to go into the Insectarium and the greenhouses at the Gardens.

Thanks for the review!!! Did they give you any idea when you might get it or what their standard processing time was?

I'll keep you guys updated on any other really cool stuff I find. So far, everything I have done has been free (aside from the cost of getting something to eat in the cat cafe). Today I'm going to walk Old Montreal and tomorrow I'm going back to the Botanical Gardens to walk some of the gardens I didn't have time for (it was getting late and I'd been walking for about seven or eight hours) and I'll pay to go into the Insectarium and the greenhouses at the Gardens.

This sounds awesome!!! I've forgotten about the Gardens! Now I'm thinking I might spend a little more time in Montreal than I planned. Thank you for keeping us updated with your adventures. You sound like such a cool person NAT!

Could I get some thoughts?

I am trying to figure out how MUCH information for "proof of relationship" I should bring. The Canadian consulate does not seem to ask for as much, or sometimes even any, information as do other consulates. My husband is a "quality over quantity" kind of person, and he thinks I should only bring a few strategic pictures showing us with our families, our wedding, etc, as well as a couple of phone bills, a list of all our trips to see each other with a few boarding passes, and no more.

Any thoughts on how much you guys are bringing and what? I don't want to overdo it, but I also don't want to under prepare. I've read what other people bring, but I want your input.

Thanks!
