I'm trying to relax, but I'm all jittery. And also going 'have we jinxed ourselves by buying tickets a month out?' There was just a really good sale and I KNOW you're not supposed to do it, but the sale was good and we want to move before the first week of June is out and if we waited until after the interview, the prices skyrocket.

I've done this my whole life. I get terrible stage fright. Then you put me on stage and I'm fine until I'm off stage and then I have to sit and breathe for a bit. Used to be a musician and the only time I didn't have to be bodily shoved on stage so the magic calm of performance could wash over me was the year our first chair French Horn player was a terrible drunk.

Almost-funny story. Was my 9th grade year, so early in my career. We had one of the most talented horn players I've ever met as our first chair in the school orchestra. Trouble was, he couldn't play sober. You know that thing they say where they claim if you learn a thing in one state of mind, you'll not be able to do it in other states of mind? Well, for him it was true. He'd been, sadly, very drunk since he was about twelve. Being teenagers, we saw nothing wrong with this. So when we went for competitions (we were generally the winners) and expos, the deal was that people smuggled in those tiny airline bottles of booze, or washed out hand sanitizer travel bottles and filled those with booze. We'd spend the whole time on the bus passing the mini bottles back to him so he could be blitzed by the time we got to the competition or expo. Trouble with THAT was, he could barely walk. So I was assigned, as the junior member and fourth chair, to carry his horn for him so that the second and third chairs could support him onto the stage. Teacher turned a blind eye because he was brilliant and the adjudicators and audiences were always pretty much convinced he had cerebral palsy. Several adjudicators apologized to us that the stage wasn't accessible and commended him for his bravery and force of will in playing despite his disabilities.

I was always so busy that year, working in the coverup, that I never had time to be nervous.

When I played classical guitar, solo, my teacher used to have to physically push me out and then I cleaned up.

LOL I don't think you are jinxing yourself, I think you are being practical. Good for you! I love ticket sales.

And re: the poor horn player. You know, it's so hard not to laugh initially, but I see SO many people with substance abuse problems, it kind of bothers me that adults would turn a blind eye to a kid who drank alcohol to stay strong and brave. That's terrible. As kids, we don't understand the implications so we help, but the adults around him should have known better.

And as for you, it sounds like things go fast, and they ask pretty straightforward questions. Don't psych yourself out. Mindfuless meditation really helps (I know it sounds silly, I thought that too until I started it), and so does deep breathing. I've struggled with some serious anxiety and issues with authority figures (I went through a refugee camp as a kid and I have a thing about people in uniforms or authority, I always start shaking and turn beet red with customs, you can imagine where I end up:), but honestly, breathing and mindfulness and relaxation really helped. As do people on this board so feel free to lean on us as well as your partner!

Do we need to submit psychiatrist assessment? Or because you are trying to get your vaccine records? I lost shots records so I did the blood titer tests. I think you can go and get Adacel Tdap at most clinics! You can get that shot free in Ontario before you go up Montreal.

I have the email from my doctor re: Adacel. The psych assessment is because I have psych records from a stress-related hospitalization when I was in university, so I wanted to make sure that the nasty things written by a psych who straight up hated me wouldn't count against me.

Hey guys, I can't sleep and have been reading the consulate reviews. Question - some of the reviews say that they were asked for the petitioner's birth certificate? I checked all the links and nowhere does it say that I am supposed to bring my husband's birth certificate too, just my own. Anyone have thoughts on this? Are you guys brining your USC partner's birth certificate too?

Also - my police certificate is from my local police service. Anyone going all the way to get an RCMP certificate? and is it necessary?

Just some thoughts I had after reading some of the reviews.

I had read that sometimes they ask for the birth cert at Montreal, so I had my wife get an extra copy to give me months ago. I do have her birth certificate in my file.

I was paranoid when I got my police check done and figured it would be just my luck for someone to have had the same name as me and have committed a crime, so I had an RCMP one done with fingerprints. LOADS of people, though, have been fine witha local police name check.

*is Terrible Person* We booked plane tickets that we hope we'll be able to use for the trip home, for the beginning of June. We'll change them if it doesn't work out, but we found an amazing deal.

I'll know in a little over 10.5 days, what my future is. It's a bit scary. I keep going 'have I done enough? Have I got all the really relevant health records? Will the fact that my old doctor refused to do anything but email me that last vaccination evidence be held against me?' I'm literally going in with a printed off email from my doctor on that one. I may have to get one vaccine, depending on what they say there, but it's just a tetanus booster. But man oh man, my medical is in five days. By this time Thursday I'll be through the medical. Which is really the scariest part for me because of the crappy mental health people in my past. I keep going 'but what if the 1200 dollar assessment I just had done to cover my ### isn't good enough?'

I just want to go home.

I think everything is going to go smoothly for you! I know that probably doesn't mean much to you but my feelings are usually pretty spot on!! haha It seems like you have been so thorough and covered all your bases and that you have gone above and beyond...and they will see this! I think it's perfectly all right that you booked your tickets and got a fabulous price! You should look at it as a good thing that you found that deal...everything is coming together as it's supposed to! For my immunizations all I have is my little yellow card from when I was a baby, a few sheets from the school-aged needles I received and a faxed letter from my doctor as well for my more recent shots. I asked the lady when I booked my medical and she said that was all they needed so I think you are good to go!! Try to relax at this point and just enjoy these last few days! You did it, you made it, and everything is going to work out! I am soo excited for you!!

Could I get your guys' opinion on something (thank goodness you are all here!!)

So I cannot get to my medical a lot earlier before my interview and I have two options. My interview is on the 22nd, and I did book a Medisys in Montreal appointment on the 15th. They PROMISED the paperwork would be done in three business days, but it's making me wonky about how close that is. If it wasn't for the Victoria Day Monday it'd be ok, but since the week is short…

I will be staying mostly in Toronto, as that's where I have friends (and don't have to pay the ridiculous hotel fees). The other option is an appointment with Dr. Macarhenas IN Toronto whose receptionist told me that normally they do a 5 business day turn around, but that if I came in on the 14th, and I told the receptionist when I needed it, they would get it to me (presumably in time before I have to leave for the interview). However, she's been vague about this, although I see the turnaround at this doc's office is usually 3-4 days - which would work better for me as I don't have to travel back and forth to Montreal.

What the heck do I do? Do I trust this Dr. M's office who won't pin down a turnaround time less than the 5 days, but seemed to be ok with making an appointment on the 14th knowing when my interview is? Or do I travel to Montreal twice and pray that Medisys truly is THAT organized;) They seem to be, it is one of those rare moments when I like the fact they are a corporation, because it's more "conveyor belt" medicine and thus more organized (??).

Thoughts?

I didn't think at the time about the results and how long that would take. I'm just going to try and stay positive!! Oh the stress!!!

I also read a lot of the reviews and noticed that too so I will be going with his birth certificate and his divorce certificate. I have the copies from what I sent to USCIS but I'm going to get the originals when I am down next weekend. Could your hubby at least scan and send you a copy? It is probably one of those situations where if you have it they won't ask, but if you don't they will.

My police certificate is also just from the local OPP. If it was approved by the NVC then we should be good! They just want to see the original with the seal. I don't think it's something that could delay things now. I was under the impression that you only needed the RCMP one if there were convictions. Like I said, we were already approved so it's already been verified by someone!

I must sound like I'm catastrophizing, but it's all just stage fright. Intellectually, I know we're probably fine. I know that we're the real deal and we're looking so forward to things. The stage frighty side of me just keeps going 'we have the worst luck!' is all. Seriously. In the 8 months before we were married, her house burnt down, her computer died suddenly and her car got totalled in a car accident. I had a serious family issue that necessitated cutting off most of my family, I ended up homeless for a couple months due to my one roommate developing a serious drug problem and then my next roommate suddenly decided she was moving out and so I had to move about three times in five months. Then we find out my wife is having health problems after we get married and we hit EVERY POSSIBLE DELAY in this process.

We're due for some good luck. I know we are. We've just been hit by so many successive instances of bad luck that it's hard to anticipate anything else. I only really have two worries, though. 1) That they'll decide due to records from years and years ago that there's something wrong with me psychologically and 2) that they'll decide that, because a man petitioned for me for a K-1 5 or so years ago, I clearly am just in it for the greencard. Can't help who I fall in love with and it's not MY fault that he was a serial cheater! Never interviewed for the K-1 or anything as we broke up during the USCIS stage, but I have no idea what happened with the petition there.

I just checked my visa status and it finally says "In Transit". I am soooo overly excited to know that I am D.O.N.E. with the NVC haha!!! This is getting so real!!! Woot!

I have been thinking about this ALL weekend. I don't really have the time OR the money to fly out East twice, but I am still considering it. I am so so uncomfortable with the Medisys 3 days thing, but I've scoured the VJ and there was only ONE person who said their file wasn't ready when they got there. And they still interviewed, just had to send the file in along with their passport when they were ready. So likelihood is it WILL be ready, but I am the kind of person who shows up for things 30 minutes early. So innately, it's very very uncomfortable. And you have a bit of time from the appointment do you not?

I will just hope that my police certificate is good enough. It doesn't really have a seal, but it does mention that they searched in the national database so hopeful that's ok.

The whole my husband birth certificate thing is weird. It says on the letter the NVC didn't request this, but on the consular website they want "a copy of the petitioner's status in the U.S." so I suppose that would be his birth certificate. I will only bring a copy though then. I don't know what the domicile thing is, but he lives and works there, so I am hoping the AOS paperwork is enough.

Also, are you guys bringing the 2014 IRS and tax docs? We submitted the 2013 ones, but I am thinking they probably want both, now that the 2014 docs are available. Plus he filed as married on the new ones;) So I guess that says something. lol.

A copy of the birth certificate or passport works as his US status, and yeah we are taking a copy of my BC too in case they ask.

The 2014 tax stuff is most likely going to be asked for, and I went ahead and updated the I-864 to reflect that. Still taking the old one and 2013-2011 taxes, but new I-864 and 2014 as well.

Sooooooo many papers!!
