The lawyer's wrong. It will not hold up the case. I've gone back and forth twice since we filed.

Awwwwww!!! Don't listen to him! You should just show up and surprise him!! I can drive to my husband (it's about 6.5 hours) so I come semi-regularly and have never had a problem. As for it holding up my case...who knows...maybe that's the problem with the NVC??haha I kind of doubt it though! I just tell the border officials that I'm going to visit my husband. They always ask if he's a Canadian or American citizen and only sometimes do they ask who's moving where. If they do ask, I just tell them that I am moving and we have submitted our paperwork and are just waiting. I always have a return date but no real proof because I'm driving but they don't seem to care. I'm so sorry that you haven't been able to visit your hubby!! I can't even imagine! I think you should definitely plan a visit...it will do wonders for your spirits and lets you forget about the NVC for just a little while. DO IT!!

Thanks guys;) Yeah, I know the lawyer is full of you know what. But he's created SO much anxiety in my hubby it's been a challenge to even bring it up. I can't visit in April because of my stupid work, but if things drag on I think I WILL surprise him in May! I agree it would help. We are 3,000km apart so it's been a little harder to visit (wish I could drive up!!! I used to drive across the border all the time when I lived in Ontario), but yeah, I think I might just be crazy and surprise him so he doesn't worry ahead of time;)

I'm from the GTA and he from Reno. We see each other at least every 4-6 weeks. I took a leave to see him for 6 weeks (as we thought when we started this process I'd be here in by Feb 2015...how stupid were we?). Since there's such a distance we have no choice but to fly. Never had a problem seeing him nor him to me. we've been doing this for 11 years.....we're both tired and that's why i took the leave....it will be very hard to leave and return with no CC insight.

Make that trip mag! :dancing:

Yeah, I'm with Mrs THB. I'm Toronto, my wife is Texas. I have to fly. Since November of 2013, I've been down a total of four times, twice after we filed papers. Go see your partner!

Met in 2010 on a forum for a mutual interest. Became friends.
2011: Realized we needed to evaluate our status as friends when we realized we were talking about raising children together.

2011/2012: Decided we were a couple sometime in, but no possibility of being together due to being same sex couple.

June 26, 2013: DOMA overturned. American married couples ALL have the same federal rights at last! We can be a family!

June-September, 2013: Discussion about being together begins.

November 13, 2013: Meet in person to see if this could work. It's perfect. We plan to elope to Boston, MA.

March 13, 2014 Married!

May 9, 2014: Petition mailed to USCIS

May 12, 2014: NOA1.
October 27, 2014: NOA2. (5 months, 2 weeks, 1 day after NOA1)
October 31, 2014: USCIS ships file to NVC (five days after NOA2) Happy Halloween for us!

November 18, 2014: NVC receives our case (22 days after NOA2)

December 17, 2014: NVC generates case number (50 days after NOA2)

December 19, 2014: Receive AOS bill, DS-261. Submit DS-261 (52 days after NOA2)

December 20, 2014: Pay AOS Fee

January 7, 2015: Receive, pay IV Fee

January 10, 2015: Complete DS-260

January 11, 2015: Send AOS package and Civil Documents
March 23, 2015: Case Complete at NVC. (70 days from when they received docs to CC)

Not certain on which forms, but, unless you live in the same household as the joint sponsor, you fill out your forms, they fill out theirs and the incomes are not combined. If the other person has a spouse and has filed as married, filing jointly, they must get their spouse to fill out a form as well. Your joint sponsor can certainly make less than you, but must be able to support their household+any immigrants. For example, if you make enough to support one immigrant with your family size and your joint sponsor makes less than you but enough to support one immigrant with their family size, then you can sponsor your mom and your joint sponsor then sponsors your dad--but you still have to fill out a sponsorship form for your dad, because you are the primary sponsor.

Ahhhhh. Am I the ONLY Canadian on here whose lawyer convinced her husband that traveling to the US for me could hold up the case so that he is too anxious to let me visit???? Argh.

Wow why would your lawyer say that? I am like Not a Tailor too. I went over twice. First time I stayed around 5 months since I was on mat leave, second time around a month for holidays!! Go visit your spouse!!! Just remember to bring ties!

Hi Michelle, Is your joint sponsor living with you and in your household. I am not 100% sure but I think the embassy officer probably want the joint sponsor to make over the threshold. And is your joint sponsor married? If so, best to get the I864A form filled out by the spouse too. Although it might be country specific. I think best to ask the NVC main thread.

For our joint sponsor, he filled out the I864 form along with W2 and tax transcript, a copy of his bio passport page to prove citizenship.

Thanks guys. Trust me, my confidence in lawyers is at an all time low after this fun experience. If you knew the stuff he has said to me, you would understand. I KNOW there are good ones out there, but it's not this one. This board has kept me sane (and made me crazy on occasion, but that's much more rare:). I will visit my hubby in May then, like it or not, because this separation has been horrible. For both of us.

No the joint sponsor is my brother he is single and he makes 18 grand. He does not live with me, he lives in the apt next door lol. Will that work? And he is a green card holder , does that affect it?

Uhm I think I am going to have a stroke. THere are three NAs on my profile. Is it too much to hope that means a CC???

I checked 3 times just in case it was a mistake, and it's still there. Although maybe it's a horrible joke, since I also received the email received email for the March 9th extra documents that I was told to send (erroneously).
