NOA1 03/05- I got a text at 10:32pm tonight that we were approved!

Hold on you guys that are still waiting- it is coming!!!

I called and woke my fiance up (it was 4:32am there)... I was so excited!!!

I did contact Senator Burr's office but they said they would contact me before they made inquiries and I have yet to get a call- so I'm not sure if it was just timing or if they inquired without contacting me by phone.

I remember reading some approvals in the thread the other day and I was crabby because it wasn't my approval. So if you're feeling that, just know that it's coming and keep your patience up and your anxiety down. The light at the end of the tunnel is fast approaching!

How is everyone going about making wedding plans in this situation? If he arrives in Dec, Jan, Feb or March it will be a really really shitty time to have a wedding -even an indoor wedding/reception. My family won't be able to travel here (6 hours drive on bad roads and sometimes the whole county, including the airport, is closed for weather) We live not so far from Canada-winters are brutal.

We were going to do a civil ceremony as soon as he gets across the border and then have a party in the fall but that seems to be void of any of the beautiful parts of a wedding that I had hoped for. It will seem more like a family picnic (which in essence it will be). Somehow "Ok here's the bride eating a pulled pork sandwhich in sweat pants" doesn't do it for me for such a big event in my life. This is the only day I will ever get married -have a wedding-celebrate with family and friends.

I fully realize that the wedding is not the marriage, but in thinking about it there is a reason that all peoples on earth have rituals for the important events in life (birth, transistion to adulthood, marriage, childbirth, death) Even if that ritual is so different from ours it still commemorates a big event. It says "this is the day that...."and "these people were here".

So there is a big part of me that wants to have at least a nice wedding-and a nice start to our lives, and nice memories and photos of the day. (with our plan what would a photographer even take photos of? People eating? It just seems awkward at best if there is not really a ceremony of any kind-)

But it seems almost impossible when USCIS then DOS etc. determines when and how I can have a wedding. I feel like my choices are being taken from me-

Anyone have suggestions? Or a better place to post this?

@jess100,

My advice is to do a simple civil ceremony within your 90 days, and then have a nice reception when the weather is not your barrier. You have to consider your guests and the risk that they cannot come and weigh that with the benefit of having a full out wedding at time of year not conducive to it weather-wise. We are going to have a civil ceremony when my fiance arrives in early 2016 and then have a family party some time later as park weddings in the winter in the northeast aren't particularly beautiful. Remember, the visa has a six month life on it so it gives you enough time to find a window to bring your fiance here and do not forget that immigrant petitioners are in the minority. We have knowingly decided to marry an immigrant so the rules of engagement and how special our wedding should be, are somewhat altered by our personal choices and government restrictions on how long you can play house without being married. I know it is a big day, but remember it for being the culmination of months of waiting to share your life with your loved one, not a day that is defined by a white wedding gown and birds churping outside. The memory created by being married by a judge can and will be just as special for you if you want it to be. I was married for twenty years and had the white wedding, pomp and circumstance so I know where your mindset is. Still, be realistic to yourself and those you most want to share your memories with - your beneficiary.

Be careful and check the date on the visa before you assume it has a 6 month validity... they only have 6 months from the date of your medical, not 6 months from issuance.

For example- your medical was done in August and your fiance has his visa in hand by January- he will only have one month to enter the US.

OP, for me... I am getting all the details together, checking venues, picking colors, making guest lists, checking prices for DJ's and things of the like... that way the day my fiance gets his visa, we will pick a date and I'll book everything based on all the research I've done.

I would say plan the wedding you want and let's pray the weather doesn't prevent anyone important from arriving for your special day!

Thanks for your sage advice. And for the reminder that the 6 month clock begins the date of the medical. I had forgotten about that completely. Very glad you posted that for me and everyone else to see. Everyone here is so helpful with this stuff.

It has been awful quiet on this forum lately. Seems like there was a flurry of application approvals and then everything stopped. No one has posted an approval for a while. Tomorrow is a holiday in Mexico so for sure USCIS won't be working tomorrow and possibly Tuesday, so we don't expect to hear anything for a while. Filers from other countries I hope you hear something soon.
