Congratulations to all that got approved and got their NOA2! The rest of you just hang in there, your day is coming.

NOA2 Recipients: Be warned that your journey is just getting started and there are additional hurdles to overcome.

We are also TSC March filers and got our NOA2 on 09/01. The case went through NVC quickly and was then forwarded to the embassy in Guatemala.

The embassy in Guatemala received our petition on 09/28 and have yet to contact us about the interview... we had programmed our interview for 11/20 and everything was set to go until I contacted them to confirm the appointment and they proceeded to cancel it and told us to keep waiting until we receive a letter from them (Just a PDF file we already have) telling us we can proceed to schedule the interview.

Anywyas, enough of that! Hopefully the rest of you go through an embassy where you can schedule your own interview before they decide to contact your beneficiary about setting up an appointment.

A Brief Note:

For those still here on this thread, you have either recently been approved, or are nearing it. You are almost there.

I recently posted 3 bread crumbs on what to do after your petition is shipped to the Department of State.

I then assembled them onto a word file and posted it on this thread also, so that you can capture it and keep it with you.

SooGyeong just went to her interview yesterday, and was quickly approved. Proper Preparation Pays.

Here are some notes on what we did to prepare; (copied from my posting on Immifairy) :

Soogyeong had her interview in Seoul. She went well prepared, with the suggested 2 folders.
Folder number 1 had all of the required documentation, and folder number 2 had additional evidence of our relationship, including hand-written letters, cards, photos of us together, and ring receipts. She was wearing her engagement ring and had our wedding rings on a gold chain around her neck.
It had been suggested to me, that in a non-English speaking country, the Consulate would offer to do the interview in the Applicant's native language or English, and that choosing English would reduce the number of questions dramatically. Soogyeong speaks near fluent English, and so after being offered her choice of interview languages, she chose English.
Her prepared folder number 1, containing the required documents, was meticulously prepared with clear sleeves to allow easy perusal of the contents. She carried her 2nd folder, with additional evidence visually in hand.
After paging through the required documents in the required folder, the Consulate only had ONE question. Soogyeong had a ready answer and a smile. With that, the visa was approved, and the interview was complete. It Was Beyond Simple.
It was also suggested to practice for the interview by asking the Applicant (your Fiance'e) a myriad of possible questions. This gives the Applicant a comfortable feeling of confidence, because they have been properly drilled and know the proper answers instinctively. The Consular does NOT know many of the answers to the questions that they ask. They are looking for a nervous applicant, or uncertainty in the answers.
Practice, and prepare.
Whether you can attend with your Fiance' or not, My I Suggest that you express to your Fiance' with genuine sincerity, how very much you believe in them, and how confident you are in them. That will do more to insure a positive interview than anything else you can do, after practicing. Being nervous during a 'test' makes remembering your own birth date a challenge. . . but peace of mind and minimal stress makes recall a breeze.

I will second this....our petition (03/03 filer, NOA2 08/28) took 1 month to reach the consulate in Ankara via the NVC, then we had to wait another month just to schedule our appointment. The Ankara website had stated that we weren't allowed to schedule an interview before hearing from the embassy (this was an email with packet 3 - really just an email with the same instructions that are posted on the website). At very busy consulates you may have a wait to select an interview date...it took us three weeks of constantly refreshing the CSC website just to find an open appointment. When they did finally release dates this morning, the first available was January 4th. So while this is a lot later then we initially hoped for, we are just happy to finally have an interview date.

Best of luck to everyone!

I wish to correct my statement. When I had a brief KakaoTalk voice chat with SooGyeong right after her interview, I misunderstood her statement. She had more than only ONE question asked of her, but the one she mentioned was the LAST one. Our Skype chat last night revealed that there were a total of SIX questions. They were:

1.) How did we first meet in person?

2.) Why I was interested in learning Korean? (part of how I met my fiancée in the first place)

3.) When did I first visit Korea?

4.) How many times have we met in person?

5.) When was the last (most recent) time we met in person?

6.) Does your American fiancé speak Korean now? (after all of our studies together)

So it would seem that the person conducting the interview had taken the time to read the narrative I wrote and submitted with our I-129F petition, telling how Soogyeong and I met and fell in love. So in preparation for your fiancee's interview, in addition to drilling the potential questions and proper answers, it might be a good idea to pull out that narrative you wrote way back when and read through it together a few times.

Also a part of her experience:

A note about the wait ... I read online testimonies that the Embassy in Seoul opens at 7:30am to allow applicants inside, and they take a number to be interviewed, regardless of 'Appointment Time'. Her Appointment was for the earliest time slot of 8:00 am, and the Embassy 'Officially' opens for business at 8:00 am. However, she was there at 7:20 in the rain, and there was already a line. When she got inside, (they opened the door early because of the rain) her number was 10th out of 20. Her printed appointment receipt for Oh-Eight-Hundred-Hours was worthless... It took her until 10:30 am to finally finish the process, and the interview part at the end lasted only 5 minutes.

Still, even with all of that, our practice question and answer drills paid huge dividends. SooGyeong was well prepared, and so was very confident and not at all nervous. Stress was only a word, not a symptom.

She also said that some applicants were turned away, because of insufficient documents, so double-check your Packet-3 checklist.

TSC finally replied to both of my senators inquires (The 2-week time frame I gave you is an estimated time only for response from the Texas Service Center. I re-sent my 10/7 request for update on the 21st. I have just learned that your case is pending background check, so I asked that department to send us an update as soon as one is available. I’ll send another inquiry by mid-November if we have not heard back by then and will keep you informed.). Anyone know on average how long it takes to get a result? I know everyone situations are a little different.
