Don't know where to start

We've only been dating just short of a year, I want to come to America and obviously live with my boyfriend but I don't want to be forced into marriage just to stay. That's why I asked about work visa's or how to get started, I would rather come to America, work, be with my boyfriend full time and see if it's actually for me instead of come to America and get married within 90 days and find out I hate it.

I don't see what's sketchy about that, at least I'm being honest and not like I'm trying to live off the system. I already know I'll get paid atleast $10 less in America than what I'm making now so clearly it's not for the money and if I had it my way he'd be moving to America but because of the circumstances that's not an option for us right now.

I wish it was as easy as you'd like to get it, but unfortunately it's not. You could come to the US and visit your boyfriend and stay with him but you won't be able to work legally. Yes, people work under the table and yes, depending on the employer you could get more than $10 per hour, but don't do it. It's not the right way, it's not fair for all of those who follow the right path. Encouraging you to do so is against VJ's terms and against what I believe is the right way to immigrate to another county. Be patient, see how you guys' relationship develops and maybe in the future who knows?, you'll want to marry your boyfriend or you'll find a way to get a company to sponsor you.

Yes, people work under the table and yes depending on the employer you could get more than $10 per hour, but don't do it. It's not the right way, it's not fair for all of those who follow the right path and encouraging you to do so is agains VJ's terms and against what I believe that's the right way to immigrate to another county. It is kind of a pain in the butt, but international relationships tend to be. I'm sure it'll sort itself out for you in time. We got married without needing to do so for immigration purposes as I was allowed to live in his country without a visa, so I knew we were ready, but for most American-Foreign couples there is a pressure to marry earlier than what would be common.

Yeah I think if you're not ready for marriage then the best thing to do is to keep visiting for now and seeing how your relationship progresses over time. Being in a long distance relationship can work when both the people are committed to the relationship and want to work at it. There are loads of couples you wait years to meet even and they stay together through it all, and I find it very inspiring.

To save on flight costs you could meet half way maybe and if possible your partner could come to Canada sometimes too.

You need to read more carefully. OP was not suggesting in any way that she was going to work illegally, and she was saying that she would make 10 dollars/hr LESS in the US than she does in Canada.

Nothing sketchy about it. Your feelings are perfectly understandable and I had them, myself. My husband and I were both divorced, and neither of us wanted to get married to anyone ever again. It was the only path to being together, though, so, here we are. It's certainly not an ideal situation for many people, and there are countless cases on this forum of people splitting up within the first couple of years. Don't listen to the silly people on here who are accusing you of just trying to get a green card. Ridiculous. Why would a Canadian move to the states for any other reason but love? (not a sentiment I share out loud with my new American friends, btw!)
