Am I pushing this too early?

Thank you all for you inputs. Is TN visa even an option?

I do not have SSN yet. I am in the impression that I should apply after the wedding. Is that right?

SSN alone will not allow me to work. I need EAD. Right?

I am wondering if TN visa is an option, as I am a Canadian Citizen.

Don't know if you are the lady or the man!

If you are the lady and are wanting to change your last name to your husbands, you will need to wait for your EAD to apply for a SSN. Or apply in your maiden name before your I-94 runs out (2 weeks before no less) and then change once you have your EAD.

If you are the man you don't need to wait for your EAD as you can get a SSN in your name before your i-94 expires, or wait for your EAD.

Yes you need an EAD to work.

No idea what a TN visa is but I'm sure you wouldn't be able to. That's why you apply for your EAD.

I am the lady :) I am the beneficiary.

Yes I want to change my name, so I can use my future husband's lastname.

Does it have to be after EAD? or after marriage is fine?

You won't get a TN with a pending AOS. Even if you did get it before you file for AOS, you'd lose it as soon as you file. Not really worth all the time and aggravation.

In my opinion you've got nothing to lose by attending the interview. If the current job opening doesn't pan out, maybe a future one will. It doesn't hurt to get your name out there and do some networking.

It's only illegal to work without a GC or work permit, but you can interview freely.

In general, interviewing too early without the work permit could be fruitless,

but depending on the profession and employer, it can be worked out...so it all depends...

My neighbor's son just married a foreign student, and they are going through the processing,

but his wife just complete advanced degree (masters or higher) in Music Therapy field (?)

and just got hired...with the start date deferred until she gets the Green Card.

the key words in your sentence are "advanced degree"

the majority of companies and institutions will not wait around unless you offer a skill that is hard to find.

Lovely!

Apply for your ssn at least two weeks before you I-94 runs out in your maiden name.

To change to your married name it is seen that you'll need an EAD.

Some people have been able to change it with just the marriage licence but others like me have been informed we need the EAD.

Seems the employees at the offices are just un knowing that we are allowed to change it and tell us we need government authorisation of our new name... Ie-the EAD.

It's just easier and less hassle doing it that way.

Yes, entry level jobs will not wait, you are correct.

I would venture to say the majority of jobs, not just entry level. Almost all applications say: "are you currently authorized to work in the US..."

If you need to fill a position within a few months, if you are HR, why would you wait around for someone when there are already 1000's of applicants that are authorized to work and that have the same skill set? As I mentioned earlier, unless you possess some skill in the marketplace that a certain employer is having a hard time finding, a person hiring would find it hard to tell their bosses to wait on someone's greencard IF there are several other qualified applicants.

Goodluck, it sometimes takes many interviews to find the right job. Go in "for practice", you never know!

If I were an employer I would be pretty pissed if I had to waste my time and enegery interviewing with someone who will not be able to start the job sooner than summertime. I would most definitely blacklist the resume.

I like your picture but not your comment. Are you an employer and can you speak for all employers in the US?

You might be "XXX-ed" but someone else might not be.

It's not nice to talk so negatively to someone looking for encouragement. All he wants to do is get on his way and you have come here to rain on his parade. Not nice.

exactly. This is something you disclose BEFORE an interview. I would be pissed if everything is great with the candidate only to find out AFTER an offer is extended that they don't have work authorization. Come to think of it, you are making a serious mistake OP if the person interviewing you has no idea about your status. Did you fill out any applications OP? Typically there is a question asking about providing work authorization.

I think you are right! I will send the employer an email back about my status.

He sent me this 12 pages employment application package. I agree would be a good idea to disclose before showing up.

Thank you Starletha for the encouragement :)
