Hello VJ,

Our interview was approve February 23. On the I-130 petition prior attorney has chosen for ssn to be mailed. The $165 for green card was paid March 2 and my husband enter US on March 6. Does any one know how long before we get green card and should we wait for ssn in mail or go to office?? I'm afraid they mail ssn and then we go and are given 2 different numbers. Pls help if anyone knows the part to this process.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Have you guys seen any update on the ELIS website after POE? Mine is still showing last updated date March 5 (the day I paid the fee). I did POE on March 16.

It's probably too early for me but I guess I expected to see some sort of case update when my envelope gets to TSC for green card production.

I might go to the Social Security office by the end of next week though, since I need the SSN.

Hello, here's some info i know:

The green card takes time, from 3-6 months after POE and after US Immigrant Fee is paid. That is why the stamp on the passport (I-551) lasts up to 1 year from POE date.

I needed the SSN asap in order to apply for an apartment so we went to the SSN office and they informed us the SSN card was already mailed BUT since we were there we were able to get the number on the spot!

Good luck!! :)

Jcruz! Long time no see. :) Thanks for the info! I guess I'm going to do the same for the SSN. I'm going to try waiting one more week so as to not mess anything up (I doubt you'd end up with duplicate SSN, but oh well...)

I've read so many different things on here. I hope the green card takes less time than that, but we'll see. It's not like any stage of this process has gone faster than expected.

It is about a 1-3 month wait.

The endorsed visa IS a green card.
