How much time between AOS interview and green card?

Hi All,

I have 3 questions:

1- I have received a letter for the AOS interview in March. How much time will it take to get the green card if I am accepted?

2- Some people got the green card without interview, is it a bad sign if I have an interview planned?

3- What happens to the EAD application if I get the green card before, is it useless?

If you're approved at interview, it will take anywhere from 1-2 weeks to 2 months (in my case). If you come out of your interview having not passed your name check, it can take months to years to get your green card.

2- Some people got the green card without interview, is it a bad sign if I have an interview planned?

No.

3- What happens to the EAD application if I get the green card before, is it useless?

Yes. The Green Card trumps the EAD, so even if they complete processing on your EAD and send it to you after your Green Card (happens sometimes), it doesn't do you any real good as the Green Card is everything you need.

Another question, once I have the green card, what happens to my social security (SS) card (it is written on it: "not allowed to work without DHS authorization") should I ask a new SS card without this written on it, or should I keep the old one and show the green card?

You can get a new SS card without that "Only valid with..." text on it after you get your green card.
