Why is everyone getting a request for a new medical? Doesn't the instructions on the form (I-693) specifically say that if you came on a K visa and had the medical completed within one year of the time you filed form I-485, you are not required to have a new medical so long as you have your vaccination record (DS 3025)? It does not say that your application has to be approved within 1 year of the medical. It says that it needs to be submitted within 1 year after the medical.

Or am I missing something?

I am so glad you posted this! I was reading through and was thinkibg the same thing. Why are all these ppl doing new medicals?! I received an rfe for medical because it was expired. So i did my research and found exactly what you wrote. Sent back rfe (with other ridiculous things they had obviously lost and also purely didnt do their job properly) and stated this with example form where it says that etc etc. i have my fingers crossed as it was sent over 3 weeks ago, no news, except tier 2 told me 'someone' had gotten my file about a week ago. I am not sure which way this will go, but waiting 15 months now. If we have to pay for a new medical: furious. Well, im furious now..but im sure they can make me more so!

14 month of waiting and still nothing. Inquiry already send and representative already contacted but still no big news...

With that, I loose 1 month to renew my EAD card because I forgot to sign 1 form, so I received a RFE (and I was late, since I thougt I will received my green card before). About that, I just received a NOA. They didn't give me an appointment, juste a letter with "it is not necessary for you to appear at a USCIS Aplication Center for a biometric appointement". Does anyone have heard about that ?

I think I will be jobless during some weeks since I loose 1 month and my EAD finish in mid-july. Does anyone know how many weeks it takes between this NOA and a new EAD card (since I don't need to go to a new biometric appointement) ?

My medical exam was October 1st 2014. Does this mean I will need another Medical Exam, this time in the US?

What I find interesting about this one is that they waited 8 and a half months to send you the NPIW letter! K2 got his in 2.5 months. My husband has never received one.

If you are approved less than a year from your medical expiration date, you should be just fine. Some of people did not have to redo the medical again. Just a few of us, including me, had to redo it again.

Well we went to redo medical exam. We got ripped off! $100 for the exam, td shot $65, varicella $150, mmr, $100 grand total $415. Hopefully tb test comes back negative or we will shell out more money for xrays

I hope your husband does not have to do X-ray. My varicella vaccine cost $125. Most of the times, TB test comes back as positive. So just be ready for that. My X-ray cost $60.

So far there is no raised area at the injection site. No redness. We go back on tuesday. What did yours look like?

Looked like a red bump. If there is no redness it means he should be just fine. I had my X-ray done and I never have had TB. I hope the test comes back good and you can send the result immediately.

Just to add to the sentiment of the rule change in June 2014 about the medical exam. Who decided that medical should be "expired" in one year? Is there any medical basis for that? The problem is that whatever USCIS does to immigrants seems to go unchecked. I haven't travelled outside the US so if I contracted any deadly disease since my medical overseas, I would be thanking the US for this. Luckily, we aren't having any epidemic outbreak. But this rule is negatively impacting many of our finance due to their slow processing time. How is this any difference than before they broke up the old INS into three parts? I am not a doctor... but this one year rule seems a bit draconian. It's written as if all cases must redo medical (but apparently, the officer can waive it, not sure what circumstances they would require in order to do that), when it should be the other way around... that on a case by case basis, if the officer sees evidence or needs for a redo, they can request for one.

welcome letter rec`d yesterday, dated 6/16. All they did at the medical was take blood, tb, and transcribe shot record(DS-3025)to the new I-695.

A woman from New York field office actually called us end of May, when i asked her why some people got approvals with a "expired Medical"she stated that that was impossible.

we found a civil surgeon from the U.S.C.I.S. site that was about 3 miles from us but in a heavily immigrant populated area. While quite the hassle, and a lost days pay, it was nice to have them tell us what needed to be done, not us tell them. $200.00. went on a wednesday and picked it up on friday, went over it page by page before sealing. Also, they saw right away that the I-693 we brought was expired,and then saw that the subsequent I-693 they downloaded was also expired, so watch for this.
