Yes. I'm sure any of those avenues to get an application moving has very small impact. This is not an easy process, and every detail is inefficient and time consuming... And ridiculous ( like all the filers who have needed to pay for a new I693 medical, so Uscis should extend the validity of this form if AOS adjudication takes this long typically). Historically, for K1 AOS, does it take this long, or is there an exceptional backlog currently? I've heard that the DACA/executive order sort of derailed normal processing times by consuming resources. Well, now with that off the table, hopefully they can focus on legal immigrants, instead of prioritizing illegal.

Well with K-1 you have to get approved for the visa then come here and adjust status. It seems that it's quicker to come over on a visa waiver programme, get married and then adjust status. You can get away with it if it wasn't 'your intention' when you entered the US. Seems royally unfair to me. I am not terribly familiar with current immigration policy/initiatives so I can't really comment on that.

So are the USCIS making people pay for a new medical?! How long is the current one valid for? That cost nearly 300 quid for me!

People here are saying it is valid for one year, and then get 'request for evidence' asking for new medical if it has expired beyond 1 year validity date at time of decision. I didn't get one yet, but my I 693 expires sometime in July (one year from date I had medical). yes, it is quite expensive I think I pay 200 dollars for the medical I submitted with my AOS application. So, if it expires we get to pay again, go to civil surgeon again, and have more time to wait for final approval. I sincerely believed there should be waiver on expired medical due to Uscis backlog.

Hi all. We can't find any civil surgeon who knows what to do with the supposedly out of date vaccination record that we got a RFE for as none of the shots are out of date. We're at a loss. Any suggestions?

There's no point in renewing EAD if my husband won't be working, is there? (He's starting full time school and football) Does the social security card ever expire based on AOS? Guess the only useful thing might be the AP renewal...

Well if he doesn't intend to work, even part time, then no.

Your Social Security doesn't expire. He'll have that number for life. But when he gets the green card, you can take it in to an office where they will order a new one without the 'only valid with employment authorization' stamped on the front.

I think social security number is valid as long as ead is valid. My ss card has a note that says only valid with Uscis work authorization. But if he will not work, doesn't seem matter. Maybe he needs the number for other purpose for identification, or school? Don't know. This process is so convoluted.

I have anticipated this will be my issue soon, too. I believe that you don't need new vaccinations/exam, but civil surgeon just needs to complete a new i693 and give to you in sealed envelope.

Did you get a request for a new medical because of expiry or is it just the shots that were presumed to be out of date?

I just think it funny. Civil surgeon is designated for this task, and should know how to do the job. I imagine this is a common situation. so, again, the CS just needs to confirm the exam and vaccination you have previously are still acceptable to Uscis standards on new i693 medical.

You're very welcome.

I think most of us on here feel your frustration. K1 is the slowest route despite being the most aboveboard. It really is a travesty that those who do not follow protocol get a quicker ride. However, that's life unfortunately.

We actually spoke to an immigration lawyer friend of ours who explicitly said that in most instances, service requests, infopass appointments and letters to representatives/senators have absolutely no influence on how quickly that case progresses.

The main thing is that you are allowed to work here, and you should have no problems gaining employment with your EAD. As long as you get in early with your EAD renewal (if it comes to that), you should have no problem with continuity of employment. Although your renewal application will be rejected if you submit it greater than 120 days prior to your current EAD expiry.

I feel like your immigration attorney friend is understemating the congressman/ambudsman & infopass appointment's influence on USCIS. My experiences with infopass appointments have been great. I have had cases resolved days after the infopass. But I suspect that the Infopass appointment would only expedite cases if the case is at the district office already. I doubt that the Infopass has any positive effect if the case is still at the MSC. I also think that an INFOpass can influence USCIS to move faster if your case is outside the normal processing time.

Perhaps I am jaded about attorneys. In my experience I have always gotten more accurate information from people like you at VJ than from an attorney. Attorneys in my opinion are good interpreting the law but they lack of information as of how USCIS work from the inside.

Contacting a congress person would also help you. USCIS even has a congressional unit that deals with these requests.

I've heard conflicting reports regarding where they are processed. Some attorney websites state that they are processed at both the field offices and main service centers. However, I have spoken to both a customer service representative at the USCIS and also an immigration officer and they said that family based AOS is processed through local field offices. Moreover, if you have an interview waiver, then they aren't necessarily processed at your local field office.

My status states that it's still at the national benefits center (where i-485's are not processed, but where the receipts are routed through, apparently), however, on speaking to an immigration officer, he said that my case is actually at a local field office in CA (which is a long way from Milwaukee). I'm not sure whether the officer told me erroneous information, but it's plausible that your online status hasn't been updated.

Have you set up an infopass appointment?

Hope that helps....

My take is that the NBC is a holding center for those of us that received the Interview Waiver Letters. When they think it is appropriate, they then ship the cases for review to any field office that can handle the work load. Our case is in CA, even though the Indy field office is processing I-485 cases from September.

The RFE just said the vaccination report was out of date. However, the tetanus is good for 10 years, the MMR is a lifetime and flu is seasonal. We've just had him have another medical.
