Hmmm. Any reason you can't do a biggish wedding as your wedding this time around, and have a big party in England, too?

Most of our peeps are actually there! Had we realized all about the immigration nonsense earlier, we might have planned the wedding there and just done a K3. But that's by the by now :(

Well... I had a load of small Welsh Lovespoons (which had a sweet card attached explaining the tradition and on the other side our names and date of wedding) made from my dad's home villiage representing "me" and Wedding Day Yankee Candles representing "him" , heart chocolates and wedding day CD (which think was an idea from your good self  )

If I came to your wedding and you gave a bunch of favours I would be well chuffed!

That has to be one of the coolest and most imaginative blending of gifts, Welshie. Seriously, very nice touch!

If anyone is going to call you on going over the top, it's not going to be on the goodie bag they receive themselves! This is your last wedding ever, so if I were you I'd do exactly what I wanted.

I first read that as 'if anyone's gonna go over the top, it'll be you' lol. Which isn't half lying if I were bein honest, hahahhaha

I'd say: go for it.

Have all the favours and foufou you want- if you want it now, do it. :)

We'll go simple on the favours: we'll probably give out cds with a couple of our favourite songs.

I'm already looking forward to putting together little "welcome to Seattle"- bags for our guests from Europe, with maps of the city, info on public transport, info on how to get to the island (where the reception will be), a couple of local specialties (chocolate covered cherries maybe)... ah I wish I could start today!

Most or all of the UKers are not going to come to the first one, though your idea would have rocked if they had. I'm sure your guests will love it!

I say go for broke! Do it all now. Why not??

Now you've got me looking at all this stuff... I was going for small, informal... dammit!

MUAHAHAHAHHAHAH  welcome to the dark side

EXACTLY!!! Do whatever suits you and remember, it is YOUR wedding :)

As for us, I am very psyched about the favors we have chosen. We decided on these way back in the fall when we were on a road trip exploring our new home and happened upon a maple syrup factory. We are giving the guests little glass bottles of maple syrup, the bottles are shaped like maple leaves. This way, we can be incredibly sweet and sappy and say that the significance of the favors is that they represent our new home and also Canada where my fiance is from.

My latest kick is centerpieces for the tables. We are trying to keep the wedding fairly low key since we are paying for it ourselves. I did splurge on my dress ... from David's Bridal and of course, I couldn't fall in love with the $99 sale ones, no I had to love one of the most expensive ones :) BTW, I tried on a red and white dress there too, loved it and almost bought it (especially loved that it is Canadian colors), but ended up with my other one. Anyway, I had the brilliant idea that I would make the centerpieces myself, but after shopping Michael's and other craft stores, was ready to throw in the towel. Luckily, high school best friends from CT came to the rescue and are coming up with a whole red and white decorative theme and have totally taken over (yay, them!!!!).

The website I cannot stop going to is Target. My friends and family are throwing me a shower in late March. My aunt has been bugging me on registering (I had wanted to wait until the fiance got here so he could partake of the lovely scanner gun too!) ... but I gave in last weekend and just registered at Target online. It was much more fun than I had expected and now I vary between being obsessive with VJ and with target.com!!!

Ooh, theknot. Capital of the wedding-industrial complex, designed to make you think your day won't be perfect without imported doilies woven by nuns in Kathmandu and embroidered with seed pearls, so your budget breaks $20,000.

Fun, isn't it? Even if it is a paean to throwing expensive weddings. I've been on a hair-ornament kick lately:

I somehow missed your response earlier...that clip is beautiful!

Autumchick - nice touch with the maple leaf :)

If it's not a cost thing, just an attendance thing, you can do something formal and fancy but non-traditional. So don't bother with the tossing of the bouquet and the big dance party, but a formal dinner and maybe a violinist to serenade the group. Depends on how many people you have.

for the 10 couples / families that attended the ceremony itself:

http://stores.skipjack.com/amospewter/Detail.bok?no=628

we had our names and the date of the wedding etched on the back :)

for the people who came to our reception / Open House parties in Canada, I found these beautiful red glass hearts at Pier 1 on sale. I wrote our names on the sides (they were about a half inch thick) and made them into fridge magnets. We bagged them up with a cute little thank you card. It was a fun way for Mom and I to spend time together before I moved to the US. :)

One idea on our short list is, since we are getting married and having the reception on the beach, we could have a pirate themed wedding. We will be getting married in October so it will be easy enough to find pirate costumes. I figure a good gift pack could include pirate accessories, eyepatch, bandana, fake gold earing etc (to wear while partying) with something nice mixed in as well (not sure what yet) What ever we chose, more than likely it will be beach related.

...and for his family who are flying in from England I think Sophyie's idea of a 'welcome to (your city here)' pack would be perfect. :) I may pinch that idea ;)
