Recently received my EAD, so am currently looking for work...

Last year, I commuted over an hour (approx 70-80 min) to work each day to work, and the same distance back home. That was on top of 12-15 hrs work days (I was a first year high school teacher, with a steep learning curve to climb). It was the most exhausting experience of my life.

Now I've promised myself that I'd find work that's LESS than an hr's drive away. If I can have my way, the job would be within walking/biking distance *dreams* This is going to cut down on the number of job opportunities drastically especially since the big city -- San Francisco -- is an hour's drive away (longer with rush hour traffic), but it'll be worth my sanity.

Well in the summer I walk so it takes me 45 mins...during the winter it is bus time and it takes 20 mins at the most. I prefer the summer routine even tho it is longer cos I lose weight and there is no waiting about.....and it is free of course ;)

My commute is 8-10 minutes straight on the freeway. I'd probably turn down any commute longer than 20 min, but I answered 30. No amount of money is worth taking so much time out of my day - and I need to be close in case anything happens to my car! If I did happen to get a GREAT offer far from where I live, I would of course get an apartment that is closer! Like you echomyst, I wish upon a star that I get a great job within walking/biking distance! I'm working on it...

How many miles? Just curious. I can't imagine walking 45 minutes to work, but that may be because my walk would be across highways and through a dilapidated industrial park lol. I assume your walk is pleasant.

I travel 19 miles oneway to work and most of that is on a highway so its not too bad. Except in winter, travelling the less travelled roads to get to the highway can be a nightmare as the snow and ice isnt cleared very well.

I am impressed. So far 55% of all respondents have commutes of 15 minutes or less. I posted this poll because I was reading an article on "extreme commuters", people who commute more than 90 minutes one way. Apparently, aboput 5% of workers in New Jersey qualify. It's nice to see so many people with comfortable commutes

I drive about 10 minutes to work. Joel drives about 20. Neither of us would want to drive more than 30.

You know "60 minutes" and "1 hour" are the same thing, right?

If I leave the house at 7:20 I get to work between 7:45-7:50. If I leave the house at 7:25 I get to work at 8:00-8:05. I drop G. off at his job on the way to mine. I usually leave at 5:05-5:10 and get home at 5:30-5:40.

I lived in New Jersey for years and my commute there varied from 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes but I did take the train for most of that time and loved it. Here I have to drive, if I take the bus then my commute is over an hour.

I think 45 minutes driving is my limit but I'd go a bit over an hour if I could take the train.

Oh, and Gupt, if you think New Jersey is bad, you've never seen Albuquerque's rush hour. Luckily I live on the opposite side of the city from most people so I miss most of the traffic (well, I can get from my house to my job or vice-versa in 15 minutes if I'm not driving at rush hour, but it's still not too bad), but I took the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway every day for years and I've still never seen anything like I-25 northbound and I-40 westbound during the evening rush. (Of course, I worked in Newark, so I'm not talking about the traffic entering NYC, just within NJ itself.)

I take the bus to work and between stops it can take at least 45 minutes to get there. I don't mind because I can read a nice book . ;)

Right now it takes me 15 mins to get to work, Jerry's drive takes 20-30, depending on the traffic.

He almost had a job that would have involved an hour commute one way, but the pay would have been sweet. fortunately, he found a job a little closer to home -- considering the ice storms we've had lately, it's a blessing!
