SSN crossed out on documents...

Hey, our co-sponsor didn't feel comfortable sending documents with his social security number on so with the copies of documents he sent, the SSN is crossed out. Will this cause any problems at the interview? If so what would happen?

Thanks.

Sounds like paranoia. The DHS and SSA work in close cooperation, I'm sure. Even without the number, I would imagine that the DHS could still get the SSN.

Presumably he sent an I-864 in that case.

I think I finally get it. Your co-sponsor is most likely not referring to the I-134, but is referring to the supporting documents that he/she submitted with the I-134. If that is the case, then I can't see any reason why it would cause any problems. But, you just never know with the USCIS.

Best of luck,

G

G,

Consulate. usuklove is writing about a consular issue, not USCIS.

usuklove,

Don't know if crossing the SSN out on financial documents will be a concern to the consular officer who reviews the visa application. If it does, they will most likely ask you to provide unaltered documents and will hold up issuing the visa until you do provide them.

Yeah, our co-cponsor has their SSN crossed out on documents.

Could someone please clarify if it is correct or not that the I-134 doesn't ask for the sponsor's SSN?

Thank you.

My bad. There is no spot on the I-134 for the SS number. Sorry - my mistake.

I've got I-864 on the brain and the SS# does go on that form. You might want to alert your co-sponsor to that because I think it would definitely be a problem at that point.

As to whether or not the number being blotted out on the supporting documents is a problem, I really don't think anybody here can give you an answer on that one.
