Isn't it amazing how nerve racking it was to get the visa journey started? Let's get this show on the road!

Then began the long and painful wait. Step by step, you move along. Things started to settle down...

Then it's all nerve racking again as you count off the days til that fateful day of the interview!

I'm a bundle of nerves these days, but for a good reason. ;)

It is very similar to a roller coaster ride.

Every step, NOA1, NOA2, PK3...etc...

1) Wait for the next step

2) Countdown

3) You reach the step

4) Excitement

5) Depression because next step is longer or just as long

6) Wash, Rinse...repeat as necessary.

I also totally agree. It's the normal adaptation process of an immigrant into this society for every aspect of her life (language, food, custom, culture, weather, idealogy, politics, transportation, housing, money, way of life, work, friends, environment, clothing, fashion, etc...), throwing on top of that, adjustment to a new husband, married life, and maybe his family. I believe the biggest challenge is the adjustment of her expectation in all of those above; especially when homesick starts to set in.

I think this is where our true love, patience, understanding for better or for worse, really count.

I think one thing can really help is for us to try to learn her language, culture, custom, to make sure she can get her type of food, to find her music, and find some Vietnamese friends (however this is a two-edge sword). My mother went through it with my father 32 years ago with one exception, they were already married for 13 years before moving to the states. And he used to tell how that he was the luckiest man alive and he loved her dearly until the day he died. The matter of fact, he got very unhappy when I brought home an American girlfriend from Wisconsin in 1988. He did not talk to her for 2 years until he was on his death bed.

Good luck to us all.

Tony/Anthea,

Good advice. My fiance has her old best friend living nearby me already. We're lucky that way. Asian food is going to be our family outings, we figure.

You're dad sounds like a good guy, saying that about your mother. Lek and I say that to each other all the time, how lucky we are. We just can't get over it I guess, and I bet we're not alone there.

It's beautiful! This sounds like a poem or a song lyrics Idinh, I like it! What you said is so true for all of us here. To add on, wait until you teach her how to drive, then parallel park in downtown Philly at 5PM rush-hour traffic....:help::wacko:

"You always get what you've always gotten if you always do what you always did."
