I haven't had a decent sausage since I got here! I've just recently got "Irish Banger Sausages" from Fresh Market, and they are a joke. Chocolate digestives, I have actually seen at Walmart though! World Market has quite a lot of English foods too.

I want black pudding.

Your wish is my command! http://www.theenglishporkpiecompany.com/collections/sausages, everything you want sausages and black pudding! :)

Don't ask for "chips" if you want "crisps" lol

I made the mistake of ordering a Turkey leg and chips - thinking it was CHIPS....

A bag of lays chips was not what i expected :)

I made the mistake of ordering a Turkey leg and chips - thinking it was CHIPS....

A bag of lays chips was not what i expected :)

Imagine my delight at seeing a bacon sandwich and chips on the menu only to find the chips were a bag of crisps and of course they were bloody ready salted too.

Haven't made that mistake again

In America, the only time you'll get chips (fries) is with fish and chips--other than that, fries are the way forward.

I have been here since 2006. I would go back home, were it not for the fact that I am married to such a wonderful man...

It is very different from England - I would not have come here had I known what it would be like... now I am stuck!

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

Married 17th November 2006

Lost my father 8th January 2007 (all dates are a blur after this)

I was on a train going to London going through Gravesend and Abbey Wood and there were a bunch of teens on the train, I don't think I understood anything these kids say anymore, to think I used to be like that makes me feel so old (and a bit eww). Americans found my accent apparently "cute", I sound like a breeding program gone wrong of Kent posh, chav, cockney and Essex, and I still get the "OMG you're English", yes I have regular tea and cakes with the Queen with greeting like "Alreeeet Darling Queen, How's it 'anging?".

Living in Scotland for last four years and having nothing but disgusted looks as I walk into a pub with trousers and not a skirt, I mean kilt kilt, I said it, I swear, please don't hurt me! It's going to be a change from living in an area that is totally ABE (Anyone-But-England) to the total opposite and "Ohhhh do you watch Downton Abbey?????", yes every Sunday whilst eating a manly sized tub of ice cream with sprinkles on top (my fiancee still is not happy that I won't watch it).

Disclaimer: I love my Scottish cousins and their passion (and kilts are very warm), I've had four years of great banter :)

As a fellow English exile up here in the frozen northern wastelands beyond the wall I can sympathise.

I swear some of the natives here just make up words to try and confuddle me.

I do have a couple of kilts but I save them for when I go down to the southern tropics of Milton Keynes or London where a jockfrock is more likely to be noticed.

Generally when in Roman.........

I suffered real anxiety when I had to talk to people beyond, hello and goodbye. I would let the wife act as a translator. English (well Northern Ireland) to American and back again.

I have made an effort to slow my speech down and were I can, use the American way of saying words and dropping slang. But what really helped was the realization that I am who I am. I speak the way I do. I have made enough accommodations in how I talk and it it the other persons problem if they cant understand me. I am a lot more comfortable in my skin now. I just hate drive thru's now.....

Oh and get used to people telling you they just love your accent. What accent?

Don't take the drive-thrus personally. My husband orders with his American accent and they give him the wrong food anyway. Job satisfaction maybe? :D

ROC from CR-1 visa (Green Card expiration date was Nov 24th 2016)

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

Oh, that's sad :( why do you feel stuck? Have you at least found a job and got a driving license? I've found the lack of these two things has kept me pretty much imprisoned in my flat :/ I don't like to go out anyway because one of our neighbours, I swear to god, lays in wait for me (and anyone else within a 10 metre radius) and starts nattering on and on without realising I'm trying to go somewhere and it's just awkward! I don't mind a chat, but he'll literally talk at me for half an hour. Doing laundry and checking the mailbox are like stealth missions.

That's so sad to hear. What do you not like? ?

There is not much that I do like here in Texas... the violence; the lack of public transport; now the open carry law has been passed, watch how the violence level increases; it is only mentally challenged folk such as the current governor and his ilk that think it will not increase...

Anyone else still voting in the UK election? I like the fact that I can still vote against UKIP even though I don't live in the UK anymore :dancing:

I've tried three times since moving here to sign up for the postal vote. My application was ignored twice, and the other time I was told that I shouldn't bother as the vote wouldn't get back to the UK in time. So annoyed!

I live in an area the SNP are almost guaranteed to win but I'll be making my little cross in opposition to them.

Polling day is immediately before my biggest drinking weekend of the year so the elections should get me in just the right frame of mind :)

UKIP are far too close to the ignorant scum called Britain First for my liking so they'll never get my vote.

As far as I'm concerned, no matter what lofty ideals a politician has when they first get in to politics they all wind up only caring about one thing. Themselves....

Makes me wish there was a 'None of the above' option on the polling card.

I updated my registration to reflect the fact I was abroad and got an application form for postal vote... but it said on the form that they would send the postal vote itself out at very short notice, and that if they don't get it back within a certain (impossible) time frame, my vote wouldn't be counted. So I was like #### it.

It's indirect disenfranchisement if you ask me :(
