Have to say that I sometimes get confused when looking at American 'candy', and I'm not too sure what exactly some of the bars actually are. I'm sure I've bought some that I thought were simple chocolate, took one bite and then thought "UGH!"

However, I absolutely LOVE the American version of Milky Way. It's kind of like a cross between a UK Mars Bar and a UK Milky Way, having the soft fluffy UK Milky Way nougat (I think) centre with a layer of soft caramel. Each time I came back to the UK from the USA I would always pack a few bags of the 'Fun Size' version in my luggage! They also do Milky Way Midnights, which have dark chocolate and brilliant white centre. These are not always easy to find at times even in the USA, but bloody hell, are they delicious and well worth seeking out!

Other than that, I'm not too bothered about leaving UK chocolate behind (other than Cream Eggs!)

On a non food/ chocolate note, there are a few things I will miss when I get to leave the UK. With the World Snooker Championship under way, I will certainly miss televised snooker. Occasionally there are Pool Halls in the USA that might have one snooker table in them, but mostly it's American Pool tables or nothing. I enjoy playing pool, I just find it rather dull to watch as it's too much show off type shots and it's all over so quickly. As far as I know, snooker isn't televised in the USA so unless I could get access via BBC iPlayer (which often can't be used outside of the UK) I won't be able to follow it.

I'll also miss rugby, though American Football is kind of similar so I can always follow that. I just wish it wouldn't start and stop so frequently!

Cream Eggs.... Been destroyed by Cadburys new American overlords, Kraft foods.

They have changed the chocolate.... Destroyed I tell you.

AS to TV. You could try this.

I have no connection with this company or even own one of their boxes but this might help your snooker addiction.

Thank you, goodnight and may your gods go with you",

I just said to my fiance today ....what is it with you guys and chocolate. I mean don't get me wrong I really like dark chocolate but I'm more of a spicy hot tamale type candy girl over chocolate. lol I have yet to meet anyone from the UK that is not really in love with chocolate some how. I really find it fascinating lol He tried to deny it mind you, but that being said I'm pretty sure he eats a chunky kit kat every day lol

Never separate an Englishman from his tea or chocolate. We American ladies must ensure our homes are stocked with goodies or they will be quite sad. ;)

Wrong, I rarely eat chocolate, doesn't bother me in the slightest, but boy do I miss a decent pint of beer

Sometimes "YO-ghurt" slips out of my mouth and I feel like I made the right decision in moving.

What I've found is my wife and I have this crazy little sub-dialect now that has a mish-mash of British and American English colloquialisms. I'm from just outside of Birmingham but my accent is closer to Received Pronunciation than anything else, but she finds the Birmingham accent so funny that she sometimes she'll come out with things like "am yow alroight bab" (translation; are you alright) which reduces me to hysterics.

Most Americans I've met over there tend to think I'm Australian.

After 7 years together, I don't hear an accent from Daniel and vice versa. We've meshed into some mixed dialect, too. I think I can do a pretty good english accent, but like you, Daniel just dies laughing. He eventually admitted it's not terrible, but it just doesn't sound right coming from me.

I posted this story in another thread, but I think it's appropriate to recant it here.

I'm quite good with voices and impersonations, and I personally used to think I did a pretty convincing, non-regional American accent. The first time I visited my wife in Baytown, we decided to put it to the test. She dared me to go into Walgreens and buy a pack of smokes using my fake American voice. I entered the store and she followed not too long after to eavesdrop. I got to the counter and asked for a pack of Camels. The clerk asked, "what colour?" I hadn't anticipated a return question so I blurted out "black", which is kind of a hard word to pull off in an accent because of the hard "a" sound, and it came out sounding like somewhere between Montreal and the noise a duck makes.

This aroused some suspicion in said clerk (a young guy) who promptly asked to see my ID. Imagine my sheer and utter embarrassment when I handed over my British driver's license...

This is totally off topic from chocolate but im genuinely curious if my experience so far is the norm in terms of cultural differences. Has anyone noticed a big difference in going to work in the UK ill and going to work in the US ill, my experience was in the UK you get sympathy followed by a pat on the back for being a trooper n making it in whereas here Ive found you are received with fear over whether you are contagious followed by anger at you being selfish enough to work with germs on you lol. I went to work with a cold thinking 'this will show Im a dedicated worker' only to have colleagues bitching about me being ill around them and even had one colleague get openly angry at me and telling me to go home. I could maybe understand if I was unhygeinic and sneezing into the air but I was discreet and in the UK you can hardly call in sick with a cold!

It really upset me at first because Id only been working in the job 2 weeks and wasnt expecting to be made to feel like such a leper lol, so used to sympathy and congratulations for working sick that it took me completely off guard and concerned me that maybe californians werent sympathetic people and Id make a horrible mistake moving here. I now realize its just a cultural difference and doesnt really mean anything and Im sure there are tons of things us brits do that would make a foreigner upset but we dont mean any harm either
