Hello,

we are starting filling out the paperwork,

I am from germany and here on my (2nd) J-1 VISA, i did my MBA here and am now working for a german company on a J-1 (ds-2019 academic training).

Can you tell me what to put in the field 2. of the I-485?

It does not list J-1

Markus

Yeah, I know it does make sense. However it is the correct answer.

You are going to file I-130 concurrently with I-485, which is the application for an immigrant visa. Spouses of US Citizens don't have to wait for an immigrant visa number unlike others (who have to wait for their priority dates to become current, often waiting many years), so in filing I-130 concurrently with I-485 you have an "immediately available visa number". The "has been approved" part is a throwback to the days when you used to have to file I-130 first, wait for approval, and then file I-485.

Trust me, it is the right answer. Even though it sounds wrong.

Assuming of course, you're married to a US Citizen.
