I am not sure what stores are good for buying baby things in that area of Canada. Any suggestions on stores that I could get a cert. from? If I purchase a certificate here can it be used in Canada....I'm so confuzzled...pls help?

There are Babies R Us in Canada, maybe you could get a certificate through them? Also some North America chains will accept gift cards purchased in the U.S., maybe you can call & check :)

I also just checked Pottery Barn Kids - but the gift cards are only good in the country of purchase.

Is she not registered online?

Congrats on the new baby!

Oh man, online shopping sucks in Canada, so it's going to be tough finding a gift cert here that'll work over there, in a B&M store.

I'm not one for mall stores, but Baby GAP have cute clothes sometimes... they have them all over T.O., but not sure if you can purchase a gift cert here and use it in Canada? What about Toys r us?

I know Sephora gift cards from here can be used in Canada, only because my in-laws have given me one :P Not so great for the occasion, but she could pamper herself with lotions and cosmetics lol.

If worse comes to worst, give her a bank draft, cheque (check...) or something that's safe to send over the mail, and send a personal letter/card with it.

I think she was registered but I don't know where, I know she had a baby shower but I didn't go...I was broke between holidays and all this immigration stuff with my hubby.

I will look into Babies R Us .... I love that place. Thanks for the advice (F)

Gift certificates are always a great idea, but I've unfornutately had the experience of not being able to use one that was sent from the USA to Canada. I don't know why. Different "divisions" or something maybe. Maybe you could go on-line to Sears Canada, Zellers, The Bay, and order something for delivery? That way you can get them something and I'm sure they could exchange it and get something else if it's a duplicate.

A Canada Savings Bond, Canadian Coin Set (through Canada Post or the Royal Canadian Mint) is always a lovely gift as well. I'm sure you can purchase these on-line as well.

how about amazon.com My sister in Canada has used that for me in the USA. You sign up on amazon.com, the recipient gets an email stating that you have sent them a gift cert in soo much $$$ and how to use it, very easy.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

You could try Gymboree and The Children's Place too. Even if the gift cards cannot be used in Canadian stores, your friend should still be able to shop online. Not so?

If it is a US store, sometimes they won't ship to Canada, only to contiguous US states.

Amazon.ca gift certificates would work well, she can buy pretty much anything from there. If you yourself order something from Amazon to have shipped to her, make sure you order from the .ca website rather than .com

A friend of mine up in Saskatoon recently had a baby, I ordered from Big Dogs website. They ship to Canada, but it cost nearly as much as the gift did! George and Bruno were insistent that they send the Big Dogs stuff though ;)

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

Actually, sometimes if you purchase things from Amazon.com (rather than .ca) and ship to Canada, it is still cheaper than .ca even with the conversion and shipping fees. Weird, but true, as we've tried that before. That said, if purchasing from Amazon.com's inventory, only books, CDs, DVDs, VHS, and the like can be shipped to Canada... all the other cool stuff can only be shipped to U.S. addresses. Which is silly, I think, because some of the products are made in Canada.
