Just face it -- liberal or conservative, the media stinks. The only way to get a relatively fair dose of news in today's world is to go to multiple sources from varying political stances. Otherwise, you're subject to someone's ideology.

Need to correct your grammar here: it should be "the media STINK" (as "media" is a plural), or "the MEDIUM stinks".

Not always true. Supposedly, British English is usually "the media stink" but American English is usually "the media stinks." When we have a group we use plural where British and perhaps Canucks (?) use the singular. However, either is acceptable as long as one is consistent!

As far as reading about the media, I've found that this has some interesting articles (about the media).

Also see Columbia Journalism Review. AFAIK, most journalists consider media watchdogs a vital part of the media as opposed to a media adversary. Especially since so much of the staff members are journalists and former journalists...

Actually, I'm using more technically-correct English.

However, Yanks and Canucks (contrary to popular belief, Canadian English is more similar to American in usage and grammar; British only in spelling) oft make certain mistakes, to a point where they ignore them:

  • misuse of singular with certain words such as "media" and "data" (both are plural; singulars are "medium" and "datum"--though the latter is seldom-used)
  • confusion in usage of "which" and "that" (I've parsed articles many times from Washington Post, Washington Times, and Globe and Mail--using British grammar-check; all of these papers fail)

(one more binning of the idea that Americans and Canadians are markedly different culturally)

OMG Steven, as they say here in MN, "oh for cute!" Actually, I think a lot of conservatives believe that Sesame Street and similar programs are liberal propaganda because they promote stuff like sharing. I actually read an editorial like that a couple years ago...

The latest twist of Bush's budgetary knife lays bare the White House's information priority: Fake news trumps real reporting.

George W. Bush is trying—yet again—to smother NPR, PBS and other public broadcasting while at the same forcing an escalation (sorry "surge') in funding for propaganda.

The closest thing America has to an independent media. This affects more than America, as I tune into NPR and PBS each week. Oh well, I'll just keep tuning into al-jazeera.

Yeah people really do mistake media for singular a lot. But what I was talking about is even when a plural like that is known to be plural, Americans will still make it singular. The same works for band names or teams or things like that. We also mistake "politics" as in "her politics" for plural...

I certainly wouldn't go that far. I just dislike Sesame Street -- for whatever reason. I don't even know why, it just rubs me the wrong way. I've never thought of it as "liberal propaganda" though.

I have some pretty good memories of Sesame Street from my pre-kindergarten years. It's inoffensive, educational and is a huge world-wide export.
